Is anyone reading any books on pregnancy, birth or parenting? I know that Brooklynbump read an interesting one a few weeks ago about the French parenting methods (I'm still waiting for my hold turn to come up at the library so I can read it).
I read Birth day: a pediatrician explores the science, the history, and the wonder of childbirth by Mark Sloan, M.D. It was a great book about the transition that takes place from a fetus to an infant during delivery and the first minutes and hours after the birth through the eyes of a pediatrician.
I'm currently reading: Get Me Out, A History of Childbirth by Randi Epstein. I'm reading the first chapter on the OB practices in the middle ages and omg, it's so barbaric.
I'd love to hear any good book recs - I read one about the history of pain relief during labor a looooong time ago and I can't find the title but I want to read it again. It was fascinating to read what some women did to avoid the pain - did you know that they used to use Ether to knock women out during the Victorian era? Crazy!
