Any other tech-y moms out there considering using a wifi baby monitor instead of just the handheld set? I really like the idea of watching from the computer/iPad/cell phone - but also the option to have DH watch the little one from work if he wanted. I've been trying to research them online - but would love any opinions you might already have
I think the major drawback is that there is no two-way speaking (so you can't soothe the baby from the monitor). I don't know how important this feature really is though. And I guess if the WiFi goes out for some reason, you would also be S.O.L. But supposedly the other type of monitors can sustain interference if you do use WiFi - so I guess it's a toss up.
Really - my two bedroom apt isn't that big, so I should be able to just hear the baby all the time...
DH likes the idea of these and has been looking at them... it seems like overkill to me but then DH works at home, I'm only gonna be working a few hours a week and she'll be sleeping in our room for the first few months.
But I'm sure DH will continue to research. Anything for a gadget!
I love the idea of wifi for checking in on everything when we are out to dinner and such. LOL and maybe even using it as a spy cam every once in a while with the housekeeper too.
I would be worried about interference with our other video monitors so that would definitely be a concern. It would be nice to have the bigger range though.

Whoa, wait, they have these kinds of monitors, too?
I just had my last baby not even 2 years ago, why do I feel so behind the times?! lol
ETA: I will say, though, that our video monitor is probably one of our most used baby items! I loved watching them sleep or just turning it on when they woke up to see if they'd go back to sleep on their own... Ive never been good at "deciphering" their cries so without it I'd just rush in all the time, but the video monitor was awesome. Actually, we are probably due for a new one. The one we have now has no sound, is blurry, all banged up, etc because it's been used so much! LOL

Hubby has decided that we are getting a wifi type monitor this time around. With DS I got just a cheap $14 one at Walmart, but we are able to afford more this time around and I think he wants to splurge so he has a new toy to play with.
