That's really cool, but I read the entire article and it says they don't recommend eating the eggs since the die in the fabic is probably not food-safe. My entire house LOVES hardboiled eggs and eggsalad so it would be such a waste to do all that & then not get to eat the darn things

You could probably do it with shells...you know, when you punch a hole in the top and bottom and blow the egg out through it. You couldn't do hard boiled eggs, but you could at least use them for scrambled eggs, or baked goods. Then you could keep the eggs indefinitely- as long as they don't break. I bet there's even some sort of hardener (maybe just spraying them with multiple coats of polyurethane?) that you could coat them in to improve their strength.

I think it would work if you put holes in them, if you were able to keep the eggs under the water with something.
