do you usually buy your child(ren) a toy/gift (ex. you go to Wal-Mart/Target to get a few miscellaneous items)? How often do you buy them a toy?

Certainly not every time. I might buy a new toy once a month. Sometimes if they are good they might get a little treat or something like that. I don't want them growing up thinking they get every little thing they want every time they ask for it.

I must admit I do spoil my children.
I tend to buy them a gift every time we shop - if they want something, I generally will buy it for them.
I don't want to have a screaming child standing in the isles if I don't buy him/her something.

Last week, my daughter(who is 12) wanted a new bike and so I bought it for her.
I spent $50 on my 3 year old son last Saturday and $35 on my 3 year old last week.
We got to Walmart every time I shop and I buy them something new every week or twice a week, depending on whether I need to go shopping.

I look it at it like this - if they want something, then it's probably the best thing to do and just buy it for them.
keeps everyone happy and there is no screaming or whinging.

It's the best policy I tend to follow these days.

I don't buy DH or Caleb something everytime I go shopping, but every once and awhile, I'll get them something, just because. Occiasionally is good in my eyes, but not everytime I go shopping.

No! Never, unless that is what I'm actually shopping for. If they'll be getting a toy or something for them, then I'll tell them before we go into the store. If we're not shopping for them, they know better then to ask for things. If Haley sees something she wants she'll tell me "I would love to have that for Christmas or my birthday!"

Ditto, I never do unless that is why I am shopping (for his birthday or Christmas). Whenever I shop with my sister, I always feel guilty not buying Marshall something because she always buys her kids something when they go out, but I figure Marshall has enough stuff already and he is so little that he doesn't notice that their mom buys them something and I don't.
