Spring 2012 was my last semester in college! I was completing my student teaching internship while pregnant. I worked 8-10 hours per day as a student teacher. My last day was May 4th (Friday) and my due date was the following Monday (May 7th) Talk about cutting it close!
I said goodbye to all the kids, and thanked God that he allowed me to finish the internship. I went home, bawling the entire way! My husband had a gig that night. I stayed home and ate ice cream and watched movies! I finally went to sleep around midnight.
Around 4:00am in the morning (May 5th) I woke up with mild contractions. I thought it was braxton hicks. I tried to go back to sleep, only to be awoken 30 minutes later. The pain was getting consistent, so I started writing down when the pain started and how long it lasted. I took a bath, drank some water, ate crackers, walked around...just trying to see if the pain stopped.
By about 7:00am, I woke up my husband and said to him, "I think i'm in labor! The contractions are getting stronger, and closer together" I showed him the paper where I had written the times down. I called my OBGYN and told her everything. She told me to go to the hospital.
We grabbed our bags, and I quickly ate oatmeal. Although I didn't eat much of it. We arrived at the hospital at about 8:00am.
The nurse checked me and told me I was 2cm. They hooked me up and she said, "We're gonna check you in one hour to see if you make progression before we admit you".
OMG that hour was horrible! I just layed in that bed in such pain I was squeezing the rails.
She returned and I had progressed to almost 5cm in that one hour. They admitted me and put me in a room. She asked, "Would you like an Epidural?"...UM YES PLEASE!!!! lol.
This was the worst part. While I am laying there in the worst pain of my life, she enters the room only to inform me that my epidural would be delayed because the doctor is in surgery!!! "What????" I wanted to cry!!! I had to wait another hour!! I was experiencing the worst back labor! Honestly, the back labor was the worst part!!
Finally I recieved the epidural. They checked me again and I was 8cm! Yay!!
This was when all of my visitors arrived My in-laws, best friends and father and brother! I was all drugged up and happy! We hung out, talked and just waited for me to be checked again.
Around 3:00pm, they checked me. I was fully dialated!! About 15 minutes later I started pushing. I think I pushed for about 45 minutes and he was out!!
At 4:09pm May 5th 2012, My amazing son, Luke Daniel Turner entered the world!
