Well, we were not expecting Jacen to come until the end of February! My mom wasn't even flying out until March 1. Well, we had a surprise! Thursday night I couldn't figure out what was going on, I had to go the bathroom so much. I must've gotten up four times already in the night. Finally around 3:30am I woke up and I was wet. At first I thought, oh no, I must've wet myself! Even as I thought it, I felt a gush of water between my legs. I froze. I thought, "that's not normal."
So I got up and went to the bathroom, turning on the light, which I normally don't do at night. Sure enough, not only was I all wet, but it was pink. I called to dh from the bathroom. he said, "what?" and I said, "I think my water broke." that woke him up! he asked, "what do we do now?" and I said, "i think we're supposed to go the hopsital." at this point i was trying not to cry b/c I didn't feel ready. Luckily I'd started packing the hospital bag on Saturday, but we didn't have any clothes except the take-home outfit, no bedding, no changing stuff, no blankets, burp rags, anything. We'd thought we'd have more time! so we got dressed, finished packing my bag, said a family prayer, and headed for the hospital.
We checked in around 4:30am and they verirfied that my water had broken. I was 90% effaced, 1cm dilated but not contracting. they waited until 7am for my contractions to start but they didn't, so they started a pitocin drip. I had been planning on doing in naturally, but by 8am (still only 1 cm dilated) i was screaming for an epidural. they gave me one and then i was fine. we watched movies and palyed games and i was fine w/ being there all day. by 9am i was 2 cm, 10am 3cm and I figured we'd be there all day. then things started to get painful again and I was feeling tons of pressure. they came back in at 11:30 and checked me and I was at 9cm! it took another hour and a half to get to 10cm, and then the nurses started practice pushing w/ me. Well, everytime we pushed the baby's hr would drop from 145 to 50 or 60, so they called the OB in. He watched me push on one contraction and said, "we're getting this baby out on the next one." so on the next contraction I pushed and he cut me and pulled out the forceps and we got the baby out. The nurse said, "they don't know what they're having" and so slowly the doctor pulled out this purple, wrinkled alien baby and dh and I both exclaimed, "it's a boy!" and the little boy screamed his purple face off.
we named him Jacen. He was born at 1:31pm and weighed 6 lbs even, 18 inches. His coloring is normal now and he's not wrinkled. He's so cute! We love him!
