Hi all. Can't believe he's 15 months! Wow...but here is how James Patrick came into the world...
I have a history of big babies and very quick deliveries so the midwife was a little nervous for me b/c I was a good 45 min. from the hospital. I had an idea of when he was conceived but I was measuring always 2 weeks ahead, so thought I was wrong. When I was about 38 weeks (in reality 36 weeks) she stripped my membranes...at this point I was in labor for 4 days. That got things going quickly. My first contraction came at 8 pm. I was at the hospital by 11...not real labor, not pain, but steady. I went drug free, which in the end was a blessing. My labor was going nicely, again, not too uncomfortable. She broke my water at about 1 am and that got me going quick. He was born at 2:26 am...But the thing is, when my water broke, there was a lot, I mean a lot. That's why I was always measuring 2 weeks ahead. We thought he was going to be 9 lbs, he was 7 lbs. 5 oz.
Anyways, he is born with one push and then the fun begins. He is in respitory distress and is rushed to the NICU. He had respitory distress syndrome which is basically immature lungs. He was in the NICU for two weeks hooked up to ventilators and other machines. He was a very sick baby...he was listed in critical condtion. But, with RDS, the mortality rate is very low. He pulled through and is now a 15 month old spitfire who keeps me on my toes!
