The husband and I went in on the 1st at 4 P.M. We were there just hanging out wondering why nothing was going on. Soon after we got there 2 babies were born, both by C-Section, hence us being neglected. The nurses took the vitals and all that good stuff, soon enough the cervidil was started(around 8 P.M.). That night was not the most fun. The first hours were fine, but around midnight I started contracting one right after the other. Around 2 AM the nurse took the cervidil out, as she was afraid the contractions might put the baby into distress as they were so close together(about every 15 seconds). We finally got to sleep around 5 AM and back up for the day at 7:30AM or so.
We waited for the doctor who came in later that day. When they checked me they told me there was basically no change other than my cervix had thinned a little(meaning I was at 0 still). She told me she wanted to do another round of cervidil. I had a chance to eat a little and take a bath in the whirlpool. At 11 AM my 2nd round started. This time the contractions were not quite as intense and never did like the 1st round did. They checked me after 5 hours or so and I had dialated to a "loose 1", the progress was exciting. Time kept ticking by and they told me I would start pitocin at midnight. Midnight rolled around and I was still only a loose 1.
I tried to sleep a little, but the contractions were there and a little much to sleep through. It was a long long time on that bed and I kept getting checked every 2 hours and I wasn't progressing AT ALL. Finally after 9 hours of pitocin the doctor concludes that she has exhausted every means she knows of to try and get the baby here vaginally. She tells me we will have a c-section within the next hour. We scramble to get everyone there. Finally the time comes to have my baby, it is about 45 minutes later than we though due to the surgery team being occupied a bit longer than expected. Regardless we go in and I get my spinal. I had never had surgery of any kind so I was quite nervous. My husband came in and squeezed my hand and it started. The anestesiologist was great, he kept me updated on everything. I was quite shocked when he told me I was "wide open". A few minutes later at 10:38 AM I heard Gabe cry. It was an overwhelming feeling, one that really can't be described. He weighed in at 7 pounds and 11 ounces and was 20" long.
So I was in the hospital from Thursday to Tuesday and had 33 hours worth of inducement drugs, ONLY to have a C-Section that took 45 minutes. The whole process was terribly frustrating. Was it worth it? Absolutely. Words can't describe the love I have for my son.
