Well....what an experience!! Nothing at all like I expected, but I guess that's to be expected right?!? LOL
My EDD was October 23....I was hoping to go a little early because I was extremely uncomfortable but figured where it was my first I'd probably go the full 40 weeks .... or more.
So here I was on tuesday night...still had NO contractions at this point.....and keep in mind leading up to this I had no false ones, and no braxton hicks throughout the pregnancy. So I really had no idea what "contractions" might feel like. DH and I were watching a movie and I got up to get a drink.....huge GUSH of water at 6:30pm....YIKES. Since I had absolutely no contractions or discomforts I decided to get in the shower before we headed to the hospital. An hour later we left the house to head to the hospital. On the way to the hospital I finally started getting contractions.....there was one, then another, and right on top of that another. They were only about 1-2 minutes apart. So then I thought these probably aren't contractions because they wouldn't be this close together. But I was wrong. We arrived at the hospital at 7:45. The nurse checked me over and said I was having mild contractions every 1-2 minutes and she guessed I was about 2-3 cm. She asked me what I wanted for pain and I said definetly epidural. The Dr. came in to check me shortly after I arrived and said....well your fully dialated and ready to start pushing......therefor no time for ANY pain meds....AT ALL That was kind of scary because I really didn't know what to expect. Once I started pushing I didn't really feel much pain....probably because of the adrenalin. I pushed for about 3 and a half hours and Micky was born. Weighing in at 8lbs 4oz
What an undiscribable feeling!!! WOW. DH was thrilled that the baby was a boy!!!! Once my placenta was delivered (only minutes after baby) the Dr said he could tell there was clotting. He tried to get them but it was much too painful for me to handle without meds so they gave me some laughing gas. Which sort of helped but it was still really painful. I was glad when it was all over. I ended up with a 2nd degree tear which took no time to stich up.
So that's my story. I was really freaked out when I realized that I wasn't going to be given any meds, but now that it's over I'm glad it ended up that way. I felt great afterwards. We're still on cloud nine
