My little sweetie was born on Halloween, he was born at 10:07am after a very long labor.
My water broke at 6:50am on Monday October 30, 2006. I didn't get to the hospital until 9am because i wanted to have breakfast and do a few things first.
I got to the hospital at 9am on 10/30 and they checked to make sure that my water broke, it had so they admitted me. I was positive for group b strep so even though at that point I wasn't having contractions they went ahead and put me in my room.
They hooked me up to the monitors and put in an IV to start my antibotics for the group b strep. They also started me on a low dose of pitocin to start contractions. My morning was pretty good, no contractions just watching tv, I couldn't really leave the bed though and that sucked, I had to call the nurse every time I wanted to go pee.
My contractions started suddenly at about 2pm. They were bearable but coming pretty close together, I couldn't really talk through them, I just tried to breathe through them. I was only about 2 cm dialted at this point.
I got an epidural at 6pm. I learned that my spine is curved, I had no idea. The epi was great, I stopped feeling the contractions and my night went great, lots of visitors. I was dilating very very slowly though. At about 2am I started to feel my contractions again, nothing bad but I knew when I was having them. My 7am the epi wasn't working at all so the epi guy came back and put some medicine directly in the cath and it started working again but not as good as the day before.
At about 8:50 am I started feeling pressure and at around 9:15am they had me pushing. I pushed for about 45 minutes and Christopher was born at 10:07 am.
I tore and had to get stitches, but they don't hurt. My biggest problem after giving birth has been headaches and neckaches which is most likely from the epidural. I was in the hospital until Nov. 02 and then home!
I love my little guy more than anything. I don't want to repeat this experience any time soon but it really is true that you forget all the pain once that little bundle is in your arms.
