I ve become a mild to moderate coffee drinker since having my first child nearly seven months ago. Now with second one, I don't want to drink any coffee especially since I never drank any during my first. Arrrgh, man, I missing the warm taste in my mouth but I am trying to at least go w/out for the first trimester.

If it's the experience of drinking it, could you drink decaf? I know it's not 100% decaffeinated, but it would reduce it so significantly that I think it wouldn't cause harm. I've been drinking decaf tea because I'm a tea addict

Hahahahahahhaha DH drinks a lot of coffee, but I don't like it. He JUST got me to start drinking a tiny bit now and then. He already forgot about the "limited caffeine" thing, and he has been offering me coffee every night. I think that he's sad that he finally pulled me a little to "the dark side", but now I have to slip away!

I know, right? I'd just made a big batch of iced coffee concentrate that I now can't enjoy...

I broke down and am at this moment enjoying a 1/3 cup of regular coffee, topped off with milk. I'm drinking water with it to dilute it in my belly. I'm scared of decaf, since unless it specifically states that it's been decaffeinated with spring water, it's probably been decaffinated with formaldehyde. That sounds more dangerous than caffeine!

Wow -- I didn't know that. I haven't found anything on formaldehyde specifically, but I'm seeing that teas are usually decaffeinated with a couple of different chemicals (one considered more natural because it *can* be derived from fruits or vegetables). My tea has the latter, but still. Hmm.

. Awwwww man....woman. I just had some decaf. Lol. Okay. I need to find a twelve week program. And also I blame my dh tool, lol after a few rough nights my dh would let me generously sip from his coffee to get my day started!

I think it may have been banned for beans roasted in the US - not positive. But for beans roasted anywhere else - who knows..anything goes? Now I'm interested to read more about it! What it legal is Methyl chloride, which apparently is used in "safe" levels, but it is a carcinogen. Swiss water method is totally safe, so I look for that on the label. They soak the beans until the caffeine is diluted out because it's water soluble.

I quit coffee entirely with my first two babies, and never started back up. However, my stupid dh got me hooked on Mountain Dew instead, since the last baby was born :-P My midwife reminded me that as much as 200 mg of caffeine daily does not increase any risks...but I still have to cut way back. Wish I'd thought of that before the bfp ;-)

I gave up caffeine when we started TTCing, and eventually i realized it wasn't so much the caffeine i missed but the warm creamy goodness as part of my morning routine. So i started drinking a cup of decaf in the morning, as opposed to the 4-5 cups of regular i used to drink every am!!

Some days i do really miss my caffeine though!!

I am a "bad mommy" i don't really go by the no caffeine thing, with my first i still had a cup of coffee (or 2) a day...and if I wanted a soda here and there i would do it (never been a soda drinker)

im going to do the same this time around too...i have an iced sugar free coffee with my protein powder in it for breakfast every morning so I am just going to keep that up...

I switched to decaf coffee but got lucky I guess because the taste of coffee (after years of drinking it daily) suddenly wasn't good. I don't want it. But I did drink a small fountain coke last night!

I am still drinking 1 cup of coffee. Once the ms kicks in I probably wont be able to drink it. Last time just the smell of coffee made me sick, so I am going to enjoy it for the time being!

I forgot about that, for a little while in my first pregnancy coffee smelled like skunk for awhile...

I am not normally a huge soda drinker. I drink a lot of water, but I can't stomach it as well when pregnant. I end up drinking soda (diet, since the sugary part makes the taste/feeling worse) or those Hawaiian Punch flavor packets. I know that aspartame isn't wonderful for the baby, either, but it's that or not drinking!

The thing that I did that appalled another DDC was eating lunch meat. I KNOW that there are lots of things that we're not supposed to do, but for so much of it, it has to do with moderation. With others, you have the same odds of something going wrong from doing it as getting struck by lightning. I had terrible all-day sickness, and when I felt like eating anything, the local sandwich shop was the only thing I could tolerate. It was DELICIOUS. I decided that I'd eat lunch meat, but avoid going out during lightning storms.
