What are you girls eating for breakfast?

I have a confession to make, a lot of the time I don't eat breakfast...just drink my coffee. The last few weeks I was having a Special K Meal Bar for breakfast but I don't think that would be wise for me anymore.

I need some ideas that are quick, tasty, and affordable. Also I should mention that I'm not a huge fan of making my own smoothies.

Darn, I wish you were a fan of breakfast shakes because I swear by my am raw shake. It fills me up, gives me energy, and provides me with amazing nutrients. In case you change your mind, here it is.

Raw Shake:
1 cup of spinach
1/2 cup of kale
1 cup of fruit (I prefer frozen mixed berries, but you could do fresh blueberries, raspberries, etc)
1 banana
Splash of OJ (I also add a splash of pomogrante juice)
1 TBSP (or less) of cocoa powder
a little honey for taste
some ice

Blend and enjoy!

The best part about this shake is you can modify it to make it work for your tastes. I am not a health nut nor on the raw diet bandwagon but ever since my friend introduced me to this shake I LOVE it. You can get it down to a science and have it made in 5 minutes.

It's not that I'm not a fan of them, but I hate making them myself. I always suck at it.

I ususally only eat breakfast on the weekends, but now that i'm pg i've got to change that habit! Today i ate half of a Cliff bar because that was the only thing i could find. I've got to go shopping!

I was thinking of jumping on the smoothie train too! I might try yours, Mammawannabe. I think i need a new blender though.

I know making them can be a pain, but once you get into a groove they are so easy! I don't even measure anymore, just guestimate and it turns out fine! You definitely need a blender, but a magic bullet works just as good as well. I also recommend putting in the banana first to soften things up!

Definitely make it according to your tastes. I find that overdoing the fruit is a great idea and makes it extra tasty! Find what works for you and enjoy!

I either use fresh from the bushel or the bagged spinach. Never tried frozen before.

Do you ever add any kind of supplement, or just the spinach and kale?

I tent to eat cereal for breakfast. I go between grape nuts with added blueberries or 1/2 a banana and muesli. My hubby makes muesli in huge batches and it's tasty.

I tried making smoothies for awhile but found I couldn't devote the time to making them with my 2 kids.

To answer some of the questions:

I usually buy supplies once a week. I find that buying berries on sale or a big bag of frozen berries is a good option as well.

I don't add anything else but spinach and kale but you could certainly experiment by adding some protein or vitamins or something!

That smoothie sounds to die for! I want to try making that! Love spinach and kale!

During the week, I absolutely don't have time to make breakfast. Most of the time (pre-pregnancy) lunch is my first meal of the day.

Lately I'm being better to myself. At home before leaving for work, I eat some cottage cheese sprinkled with sea salt and pepper. Quick, easy, and satisfying.

A tip for smoothies: make individual freezer bags full of all the ingredients but the juice and powders. You'll think that this sounds gross, but I put black beans in my smoothies. You can't even taste them with all the fruits and spinach, but it adds protein and bulks up the smoothies! I use plain Greek yogurt sometimes, too, but if you want a slightly different flavor, that's an alternative.

I try to hard boil eggs a couple of times per week so that I can have an egg and some fruit, or something like that. No hassle, and I can eat them on the go! If I have more time at home, I like whole wheat bagels with chive cream cheese and a tomato slice. DELICIOUS. I also have half-sandwiches often.

Honestly, I don't usually eat breakfast. I just don't feel like it. I'll eat an early lunch instead. But being pregnant has actually made me feel hungry as soon as I wake up, so I have no choice!

This is what DD and I tend to eat for Breakfast:

*Fruit smoothies
*Whole wheat banana-chocolate chip muffins
* Egg salad sandwich
*Hard boiled eggs w/ country side potatoes
*Oatmeal (DD & DH, I don't like it anymore)
*Creamy-cheesy hash-brown casserole
*Pancakes (before I add the milk to the mixture I put the milk in the blender with a banana and handfull of spinach, it's healthy and the spinach doesn't change the taste at all!)

I love the idea of pre-making the baggies of stuff and freezing it. This would help a lot I think on saving time.
