Is anyone here fearing for when m/s comes along?
I'm TERRIFIED!
With my 1st pregnancy I got sick exactly at 6 weeks and it was sooooo bad, I would lay on the couch all day, hardly ate and at one point even drinking water made me to sick I had to go to the hospital to get fluids...I lost waaaayyyyy too much weight since all I was doing was running to the bathroom and couldn't bare to eat anything!

I know every pregnancy is different but if it's as bad as last time I have no idea how I'll function with a needy 3.5 y/o
My first thoughts of today was to do as much deep cleaning in my house and cooking/freezing food as possible so DD and DH would have something to eat while I'm too sick...

Any way to avoid m/s?

I don't think it can truly be avoided, but I've heard of people having bad m/s their first time and not the next, for instance. Did you take any medication to help? I swore by b6 and half a unisom (as I mentioned in another thread), as well as eating red meat at night. No idea why that helped, but it did. I also had to go to bed really early...like 7:30. My daughter goes to bed at 8, so it could be a challenging and not very fun time.

I don't think you can avoid it. I started around 6 weeks with my daughter and I had it bad like you did! I had it right until the day she was born. I was prescribed Diclectin (like Zofran) and it took the edge off for me!

I wish they'd do Diclectin in the US -- thankfully that's exactly what the b6 plus Unisom is!

I took zofran with my 1st but unfortunately it was so bad that it helped but didn't make it go away and it lasted from about 6 weeks on. With my 2nd I was admitted to the hospital at 7 weeks and was given kytrol (not sure of spelling) it lasted throughout my pregnancy too. So here I am starting to get sick again but I already have the zofran this time!!!! I'm hoping getting it early I can avoid the hospital!!
I think my rambling means I completely understand your fear!!!

I am scared crapless. Mostly because I don't know how I'll be able to keep it a secret in my small office-4 people to one room! Sheesh! But I secretly want it because it would make me feel like I'm more pregnant-isn't that sick? (no pun intended lol)

Thanks ladies, that really helps! I wasn't sick throughout my whole pregnancy but around 14 weeks DH and I called up a friend who knows a lot about food and what they do for the body and told me that m/s is usually caused when we're lacking some kind of vitamin or mineral that the growing baby is taking from us...she gave me a list of food that can help calm down the tummy and it seemed to help some.

I heard of so many women talking about B6 and unisom but when I asked my doctor she said no, that I shouldn't be taking sleeping pills while pregnant...

Oh, and I'm a vegetarian so no red meat for me

It's the same thing as an approved medication in Canada and the UK and was on my list of approved meds. Shrug. I'm sure all health care providers are different.

Hmmmm...hopefully the doctor will o.k me on the unisom this time around, I have light insomnia so I'm used to taking it.

Yes and no. I'm one of the crazy ones hoping for it so that I feel very pregnant and can put my mind at ease. I know that it's no guarantee, but I still hope for it! I also don't; I had it all the way through my pregnancies with my sons. It was terrible. Nothing seemed to really help. I had different things that might make me feel better temporarily, but never really helped the vomiting. There are so many things that are available now, though, and that most docs are willing to try. You can order Preggy Pops, ginger, etc. to have on hand for when it starts! That way you won't be caught off-guard!

I too am one of the few who looks forward to it. My first and second pregnancy were pretty uneventful as far as morning sickness. I did get sick the last time around but the n/v was due to my extreme aura migraines. I hope to God I don't get them this time around, they are absolutely horrid.

I used to have migraines every day. When I got pregnant (and stayed that way) with my first, they went away. When I got pregnant with my second, they came back, but not as bad as they had been. I'm hoping that this one kicks my migraines out again!

Well, I had no morning sickness and i pray it is the same with this baby! I did have an upset tummy today from eating cereal so maybe I'll stay away from milk for now.

I had some mild nausea last night and still had my craving for olives, so I bought a jar and ate some. The nausea went away. So, I looked online at what nutrients are in olives, and they have a lot of iron. Funny that red meat helped last time and now olives this time...seems to be an iron thing, even though iron in prenatals aggravates m/s for some women.

So, maybe listen to what you crave!

Fearing it? Sister, I am LIVING it right now.

I am so sick I feel like garbage. I threw up this morning in the kitchen sink. I had just got out of the shower and I only had a towel wrapped around me and I had a sudden urge to puke. I ran to the kitchen (closer than the toilet) and I puked for about five minutes straight.

Then for more humor, I didn't have underwear on yet, started to pee myself and I had to put my towel under me to catch it all. I was DELIGHTFUL this morning!

Zofran was my best friend with Xavier. I threw up 3 times a day....when I woke up, after my shower, and at 6:42PM every night for the first 19 weeks.....! Zofran got me through the day at work...barely....!

I would walk into work with a half of lemon hanging from my mouth because the bitterness was the only thing that settled me....

I am praying I do not get it this time. I am just waiting patently to see.

That is the most insane thing I have ever heard I don't want to laugh but it sounds like some outtake from the movie "Baby Momma" or "SNL" or something lol.

but really, I hope you find something that brings you relief soon!

Oh trust me... I know...looking back it's hilarious. But at the time, I was dying. I guess it will teach me to put underwear on as soon as I get out of the shower!
