On 1/31/12 at exactly 16 weeks pregnant Noah came too soon. He was our 7th loss
If you would like to see pictures of my sweet (but tiny) boy they can be viewed at www.caringbridge.org/visit/noahdarrohn they aren't the easiest pitures to look at but I am willing to share them with anyone who would like to see them <3
I do the blood draw for all the risk and stuff but I've never had a U/S for it. I never knew they did one until I joined JM. I guess my doctor's offices don't do the U/S for this stuff.

No idea, but probably. We are still early to even be thinking about this kind of stuff...we are just hoping to make it to 8w, then 10w. Once we graduate from the RE and I'm back with my perinatologist, we'll have a better idea of this stuff. A lot of my other JM friends have done it though.
We weren't going to do it (our theory was that for us personally we were going to keep the baby either way and I thought waiting for the results would cause too much anxiety) but then I found out they did a u/s as part of the testing and if we opted out our next u/s wasn't until 20 weeks....and that's when I signed the consent form lol. I can't go that long without seeing the bay bay! It's the one thing that reassures me that things are ok!
I've never been offered this in any of my pregnancies so probably won't this time either. I was offered blood tests but turned them down for my first two. Not sure if I will do the blood test this time?

I dont see a ticker in your siggie so how far along are you? How long does your doctor keep you there? I just had my last appointment at the fertility clinic Monday.
My doc wants it because of DS2's genetic disorder (which is spontaneous and not recurrent, but he still wants to check), but *I* want it for the extra peek!
I'm gonna do it cause I'm 36 and don't want an amnio unless the NT shows a high risk. And no matter what I'm keeping my baby, it would be nice to be prepared for such things however.

I will be doing it as I had a child with anencephaly and we like to rule that out asap. No matter the outcome I would carry full term, but I like to know if something is wrong. With my daughter it gave me months to come to term with what was going to happen and plan the day out so it could be a day of joy and memories not an unexpected day of grief. Anyway I have my ultrasound on the 21st at the high risk office.
So sorry about your daughter. that was a fear of mine with my first two girls...but they were both unplanned, and I was on drugs notorious for causing various neural tube defects when I got pregnant. I did testing with those two...in fact, with my first we were part of one of the last-phase trials of the nt scan before it became the recommended procedure. I am no longer high risk for defects, so I no longer test.

We opted out of this choice because we are keeping our child whatever occurs. Secondly we don't have any genetic disorders that run in the family and my family has cranked out enough babies for me to get a good idea of any disorders that may run in our family. We do have a problem with all being sarcastic joksters but I don't think that can be screened out. *lol*
Our OB doesn't do ultrasounds til 20 weeks, so i want to be able to see my little one before that. Also DH has downs on his side. We're keeping the baby no matter what, i just want to be prepared.
We weren't going to but we decided to have it done...both the U/S and blood test. My dr highly recommends it and we trust her 100%! She tells us that it detects all abnormalities, not just down syndrome....it also detects cardio diseases....so for example say they find something they could be prepared and have a cardiologist in the delivery room rather than something happening at birth or days later and not being prepared for it.........

Downs isn't genetic. Here you have to do both parts the bloodwork and the scan. I tried opting out of the bloodwork but my doc said it has to be both. This time if the risk comes back high again we will not be doing the cvs. I was that 2% that miscarried. There is a new blood test offered here that will give results with the same accuracy. It isn't covered by insurance though ($475) or we would have done it already. I would never abort but would like to be prepared if my baby had "designer genes"

we will be doing the test only to get another ultrasound. They did do it last time but told me they don't really count the results because with multiples it isn't a very good tool.

Ya, I still have my TTC siggy and such up, because I am a very active host on the TTC #1 board, and I'm not quite comfortable enough to leave yet. Any pg related stuff in my siggy would be very insensitive to the other girls, and I'm not great about remembering to hide it
So, I am 7w3d. My first/baseline scan was at 6w0d, and my next is at 8w0d, which is Monday Jun 18. My guess is that after that I will go back at 10w0d, at which point, if all is well, I will "graduate" to my regular doctor, a perinatologist. I assume that any NT scans and the like I will discuss with my regular doctor, once I am back with her!
