3 weeks ago, my little sister (age 7-I know...) had a rash all over her. She went to the hospital eventually, and they made her stay overnight. Because my dad and his ex do not have a "nice" custody arrangement, I can't get an answer about what it was. I'm worried because my son now has the rash all over him. The timing is way off for Fifth Disease, unless he got it from somewhere else, but we really haven't been anywhere else. I THINK that I had it as a kid, diagnosed by the school nurse eyeballing the rash. I was still made to stay home from school for a few days, even though the contagious period is over by that point. So, I think that I'm immune, but not certain. I'm just venting because I was getting comfortable and JUST made it Facebook official today. Now, of course, I'm paranoid. I know that the odds are slim, but I catch things easily. :/ I'll be calling the doctor tomorrow for a blood test to see if I'm immune, I suppose!
Yeah, I'm trying to look at the odds. 65% of adults are already immune, and I specifically remember lots of people being called in for my rash and being told that it was that. I'm 85% sure that I'm immune. Of the non-immune, 50% will contract it, and 11% of those will have fetal issues. My odds are tiny of having something go wrong. I know that. But my family seems to attract rare. Still, taking the kids in tomorrow, then getting a blood test, and seeing where we go from there. Supposedly, it would be extremely strange for DS1 to have contracted it from my sister when she had had the rash for many days already, and then for the incubation to be so long, BUT I know that there's a possibility that he could have gotten it from elsewhere. It definitely looks like Fifth Disease.
Just keep your fingers crossed for me! It's funny...I'm worried, but not. I'm almost worried just in case, but not worried because I'm almost positive that I had it as a kid. Just trying to stay calm until tomorrow...
My son has it right after I found out I was pregnant. Luckily, I haven't shown any signs. I'm probably immune- I taught preschool for 7 years... And if you get it as an adult, you often don't get the rash, so I could have had it and not known... Basically, all my Dr is doing is monitoring for 12 wks, so *almost* in the clear...

Yeah, after being in a cramped school where everyone got everything, then working with small children for years and years, babysitting, having kids of my own, and being in hospitals and doctors' offices non-stop for the past few years, I feel like I would have picked it up somewhere along the way. Like I said, I remember the school officials standing around me and talking about it, and what the rash looked like on my legs. I think that I remember the pediatrician telling me that I looked slapped, so it must be Fifth Disease. I am assuming that I'm immune, but it doesn't hurt to check. After the blood test, if I'm not immune, they'll just monitor me. With the pending move, though, I'm not sure what we'll do about the ultrasounds in the middle.
DS1 is fine, of course. I'm taking him in just in case. He's also on a few meds and has had a couple of issues with anemia, so I'd like for the doc just to make sure he's okay. Then we'll head to my doc. And then, I'll come home and pass out because two docs' offices in one day with both kids...my idea of hell. Hahahahahha
Weirdest thing ever. I saw this post but didn't open it yet. Then this morning my husband sends me two pics of DS2's cheeks that are bright red and rashy. He was rashy yesterday too but not as bad. I googled it and the first thing that came up was fifths disease. He has all the symptoms. He had a "cold" for a couple of weeks and the past couple of days the "slapped in the face" looking rash. DH made an appt for 3:15 for him. I told him if that IS what it is to text me right away and I'll call my OB and see if I should come in for blood work. I came back to this thread b/c I remember seeing the title. I'm starting to freak a little too but trying not to. I have no idea if I'm immune or not but there's 5 of us in our household and usually things spread so I'm worried it could possibly be "in the air" still. So far no one else has any cold symptoms but that doesn't mean much.
Ugh, ugh, ugh!
