Yes, we are slackers but I wanted to wait until I had a bit of a belly, told the family, and wanted to be sure it was the right time. When we had Sammy (the three year old), Riley (the five year old) was just 20 months old and seriously wanted nothing to do with the baby!! And from time to time since then we've asked him if it would be okay to have another brother or maybe even a sister. His answer was always no! A firm no!!
Now that he is a little older he has really started to love on babies and point them out every time he sees one. Making remarks about how cute they are and even wanting to hold/touch them. It's super cute.
When my friend took our announcement pic we had planned to tell them over some ice cream right after that but the time just didn't seem right. Their big brother (the nine year old) was going home on the 6th so I knew I had to tell him first. Told him, and he was super excited. Told me that he couldn't wait to buy something for the baby!
Well on Monday I sent the boys to the babysitters while I rested from my adventures on Sunday. While they were there the sitter asked Riley 'What's in mommy's belly?' She didn't know we hadn't told them yet. So he says, 'Food, just lots of food!'
I told dh that we HAVE to tell them tonight. So we did. On Monday night we told the boys and they were SO excited. They are demanding a princess girl...and no boys! The first thing Riley said to me yesterday morning was, 'Can we give the baby a Star Wars name?' His newest obsession. They are so cute, telling everyone they see that their mommy is going to have a baby! I am so glad that my Riley took it so well and is actually excited. He asks to see my belly about 50 times a day, tells the baby bye when I leave for work and says he can't wait to rock her! Yes, he refuses to think that we just might have another boy!!
We are waiting to tell my SO's 3 boys about the baby until after our anatomy scan. The oldest already said he'd like a sister some day, and they are all really sweet around babies. I hope we have as positive a response as you did. I definitely chuckled at them asking to give baby a star wars name
oh my goodness such a cute reaction! my son is much too young (13 months) to understand and seems to think that my growing belly is just a convenient step stool lol. but he loves other babies so i think he will enjoy a baby to play with
So cute! Savannah is only 10.5 months old now, so she has no clue. I hope she is interested in the baby when he/she arrives. Looking forward to her reaction though when we have a #3. She should be old enough by then to know.
