and I am ALL smiles. So DH couldn't make it because he double booked us and something work related. I'm ok with him not going because I knew today would just be labs and listening to the heartbeat. So it took a good minute or two to find the heartbeat on the doppler. I felt like I couldn't breathe otherwise I would miss it, it was that soft. Baby was beating at a healthy 152, down from 174 at the 11 week appointment. I have the three minute session recorded on my phone for DH.
Then I spoke with the mid wife and she just gave me a run down about the weeks to come. I was told to go to radiology and schedule my u/s which they will do between 18 and 22 weeks. Well I get to radiology and all she does is take down my number and says "someone will call you". That's it?? Someone will call me?? Can't we just go ahead and make an appointment 3 weeks from now when I'm 18 weeks? So hopefully the lady read the joy all over my face and will squeeze me in at the quickest available time and date.
The midwife told me that the u/s would be my next appointment and then I'll see a Dr. again at 24 weeks. Oh I also gave 2 tubes of blood for a quad screen and CF screen. She said results take up to 3 weeks but sometimes come back very fast. We have no history on either side of the family but DH really wanted me to do the screening. She said unless results are something to worry about then we'll discuss them and the radiology results at the 24 week visit. Oh and then I asked her if radiology will be able to explain what we're seeing on the ultrasound and she said no!! Once again if there's anything odd going on she'll give me a call to schedule a followup otherwise we'll discuss at 24 weeks. That's kind of scary, ya'll agree?
Oh and I also asked her about my appetite. I haven't gained any weight, kind of a shock because I'm not eatting extremely heathly. I'm missing a lot of veggies and fruits because I don't really have an appetite. She said not to worry because the baby will get it's nutrients from whatever I had before it came along and whatever I am able to eat. I also asked about headaches, I got them frequently before the baby and now I get them everyday. She said it's higly related to water intake in pregnant women and stress and all the craziness that my body is experiancing. She said if I up my water intake and that doesn't work and tylenol doesn't either then to come back and they'll give me something stronger.Wow I thought this would be a simple update but I guess the way the midwife worded things, she's got me all concerned.
All in all great appointment. Glad to know my LO is growing and comfy inside of me
What your midwife failed to disclose is the nutrients you're not getting (especially calcium) will be taken from your stored fat and bones. You could end up having issues with the baby if you're not getting a balanced nutrition and osteoporosis if you're not getting enough calcium. You will need to try to focus on getting a healthy, balanced diet so the baby isn't born premature or with low birth weight issues.
Oh and headaches (if caused by high BP) can be a sign of something serious like preeclampsia and needs to be monitored by a doctor. It's not always water and hormones causing it.
I wish you the best!!! Everything else sounds good.
So glad you got to hear your LO's heartbeat <3 My baby's wait soft at my last prenatal, too, but beating at a nice, strong 156bpm. Maybe we just have shy babies
As far as eating, I have trouble eating healthier things sometimes, too, especially veggies. I try to make my absolute favorites or dress things up so they're really yummy (like a creamy salad dressing or a cheese/spinach bake). I've always found that my appetite takes off around 20 weeks or so, so maybe you'll experience that, too. Have you tried smaller meals/snacks throughout the day? That helps a lot of moms get good food in.
I had a few u/s techs refuse to even let me see the monitor or tell me if there was a heartbeat. Techs like that are rare. Technically they are doing their job but they cause unwanted stress. It's really not normal to get a tech like that. I hope your ultrasound goes great and you can ask lots of questions and gets answers on the spot.

On 1/31/12 at exactly 16 weeks pregnant Noah came too soon. He was our 7th loss
If you would like to see pictures of my sweet (but tiny) boy they can be viewed at www.caringbridge.org/visit/noahdarrohn they aren't the easiest pictures to look at but I am willing to share them with anyone who would like to see them <3
Glad I'm not the only one a little diappointed with my appointment. I'm thinking of adding veggies to my food maybe blended up, like you would do for a picky child. Or try a veggie and fruit shake like I read a while back on the board. Thanks for all the comments!
Im glad everything went ok! I hope you get a nice U/S tech. Mine was amazing and told me anything I wanted to know. Of course not complete details but she made sure to tell me at the end of the appt that she didnt expect me to get any emergency phone calls. She also let me see the whole thing and explained everything I was looking at.
Sounds like a great appointment! And don't worry about the "possible" bad things. I'm sure your midwife or doctor would bring any concerns they had up with you! I'm glad you got to hear the heartbeat! <3 And I know how you feel not being able to schedule your appointment right then. I'm on a military base and it's the same way.
I always wonder if they are keeping something from me at the u/s appointments. It's scary to think they may know something and not tell you.
For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother's womb...I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made...My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place, when I was woven together...Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.
