So I went to the doctor yesterday and I finally got my script to get my anatomy scan done!! woohoo!! My doctor recommended I get it done around september 1st....she said a few days before or after was fine. When I called up the place to schedule my appt...she asked me if I wanted to make my appt for tomorrow! She told me anything after 16 weeks is fine.....I ended up schedule for next wed as I leave for vacation the day after and I wont be back until labor day. Now my question is if 19 weeks is a good time to get an anatomy scan? Or should I try and be patient and schedule it for after labor day????

I'll be curious to hear what the other more experienced ladies say about this... my "anatomy" scan is at 17w1d, but I don't think that is the actual anatomy scan, but because I'm high risk, they do more than usual. I *think* 19 weeks would be fine, but again, I'll let the other more experienced mommies chime in!

I think 19 weeks would be fine. My midwife does them anywhere from 18 to 22 weeks, so did my previous OB.

I had mine at 16 weeks, but I am also high risk so I will have another anatomy scan in a couple weeks. From what I have read, it looks like 18-22 weeks is the time for most anatomy scans. I would go with 19 weeks, but I am impatient.

I know my doctor said at my anatomy scan that the next one we will get to see more detail of the baby because the baby will be bigger and parts will be easier to see. You still see lots at the anatomy scan, but I think sometimes its hard to tell what you are looking at with a smaller baby.

My doc won't do it a minute before 20 weeks. Something about a part of the brain that doesn't develop until 19 or so weeks? Mine is Sept 13th.

My doctor wanted me to wait till i was 20 weeks, but i convinced her to make it for when i was just a few days shy. I go in on Monday! I think that everything will go fine going in at 19 weeks. 18 to 20 weeks is usually when most doctors and midwifes recommend going to get one done, even tho we all get very impatient and just wanna know what were having! I know i just wanna pop! Good luck!

I wonder what part of the brain doesn't develop until 20 weeks?

I had a great sonogram tech for my anatomy/anomaly scan, and she talked us through what she was doing. They also re-estimate baby's size and due date based off of how they are growing. My baby girl was growing about a week behind, but because it was within a week, they kept my due date. I think if it is off by more than that, they will also adjust your due dates (important for c-section timing and induction decisions). I agree, 18-22 weeks is recommended, and I have not heard anything specific about the brain and waiting until after 20 weeks - although our appointment was at 20 weeks, 3 days.

Just had mine done at 19 weeks and there were no problems.... now if I end up delivering a boy, then I'll say it was done too early.
