Ladies~

Just a quick warning about something I discovered about Walmart's online registry process.

Walmart's security on their website is HORRIBLE. Please keep the following in mind.

I may sound paranoid, but let's face it, there are crazy people out there. Crazy people that would steal babies. Often times you can tell by what someone registers for if they are having a boy or a girl or even multiples. Crazies could use this to their advantage.

Well, my cousin was having a baby and registered at Walmart. I went to buy her something off of their website registry, put it in my cart and chose to continue with my purchase as a "guest."

Without creating a user account and only entering my email address (which honestly, I could have entered a fake email address and it would have taken me to the same screen), up pops my cousins full mailing address to where the gift is going to be sent. I was horrified. Most registries state that this will be mailed to the address that the couple indicated. The sender of the gift just trusts that the address is correct and the gift is sent.

I created my own registry now on Walmart and put in a fake address. I warned everyone of this problem and told them they they would have to select, "ship to another address" and enter in my REAL address.

In some way I hate to put this out there, but I think everyone should know that you or your family members contact information can be put out there for everyone to see.

I also wanted to give everyone a heads up because I'm not sure if this security issue is a problem on other websites. Please check your registries to make sure your information isn't exposed to the public!!!!!

Wow. I never would have thought of that! I remember for our wedding registries, you did have to enter your address, but when the giver chose to ship the gift, they never were able to see the shipping address, it was all handled internally.

I'm going to have to look into this. That is VERY interesting. Thanks for bringing this up.

Ladies - if anyone else runs into this on any other website/registry, pls let us know!

Scary stuff! It's sad that you have to worry about things like that, but there are people out there who do scary things like try to steal babies. I don't think you can be too cautious when it comes to keeping yourself and your family safe.

Thanks for the heads up!

That is disturbing! Thanks for the heads up.

I am a pretty paranoid person. I worry about crazy people / serial killers / kidnappers all the freaking time. I booby trap our house every night, lol. We came in through the garage the other day and I had forgotten to de-booby trap before we left, so when hubby opened the door a big glass pepper shaker went crashing to the floor. Whoops. I really want to get GPS trackers for my kids and I fully intend to get my concealed carry permit, I just need to find the time.

omg you are not paranoid, that is crazy! staying away from there, like you i am paranoid about baby stealers....i even made it clear to family, if anyone decorates my house for baby home coming or puts up one of those "welcome home baby signs" in my yard i will be really mad at them...because the last thing i want is anyone knowing i have a new baby in the house.

Yikes. I know BRU told us specifically that no one would see our address. Scary stuff.

We registered at Babies R Us & Target, I haven't noticed it popping up our personal info when a registry inquiry is made.

Thanks for the information on Wal-Mart!! Sure glad we did not register there!!
