can you get your hair highlighted while your pregnant? would you? I feel so 'blah' lately about myself....I feel the opposite of a glowing happy pregnant woman. I've gained 20+ pounds and feel so unattractive.......also what about crest whitestrips? any opinions? being pregnant can be really confusing sometimes on what you can and can't do!!!!!

Being pregnant has never stopped me! I don't do it now, but have in the past with two other pregnancies and it was all good. Just don't do it in your tiny bathroom with the door/window closed and no fan! LOL

Seriously though, you should be totally fine to get highlights.

Yeah. I think highlights are fine. Like Tyra mentioned, just be in a well-ventilated room and avoid too much exposure to the scalp, just to be safe.

I don't know about the white strips, since you would swallow some of whitening material as they sat on your teeth for a prolonged time. I might steer clear of those if I was feeling cautious. Maybe try a strong whitening toothpaste like optic white or something like that?

I have gotten my hair highlighted while pregnant. Actually the day I got my bfp, I had a hair appointment that night. That's the last time I had it done, I've kind of been putting it off for the pregnancies sake. But I'm long overdue and I'm sure I'll get it done at least once before baby comes.
If you go to a professional, you can talk to them beforehand. It's likely they've highlighted many pregnant women's hair and can give you some reassurance. Good luck! I know what you feel about being "blah". I hope this gives you a boost

Highlighting the hair is fine during pregnancy, all over color should be avoided because of too much scalp/dye contact.

I color my hair while pregnant too.

I don't whiten my teeth while pregnant though.

white strips are a no go.

but

you absolutely do whatever to your hair (bleach, highlight, perm, relax, etc) as long as you minimize the amount of time the chemical is in your hair, and you make sure the room is ventilated. apparently there's such a minimal amount of chemical absorbed through the skin that it's ok once or twice during the first trimester, and its all considered safe to do once you hit second trimester.

i read up on this because i've been down on myself too- i went with purple. it made me happier. lol

I have gotten my hair dyed while preggo. My doctor said its ok as long as its in a well ventilated salon. I would think twice about using bleach though... but thats just me. As for the whitening strips...not sure.

Got mine done last week and have had it done for all 3 pregnancies. It does make you feel better. I also have gained more than desired and feel yuck! Go for it. It helped me.

I just did highlights this afternoon! The dye isn't touching your scalp so I wouldn't worry too much about it!

I dye my hair once over a darker shade of brown every few months. Did it once my 1st tri and I'll do it again soon I just try and stay in an open space with good ventilation and I don't keep it on a second longer than I need to.

I've had four perfectly normal kids after doing allover color several times in each pregnancy...including more than one bleaching and then dying over the bleach with my last kid. I have not done it during this pregnancy, just because two years of two color treatments at a time will destroy your hair (but man, do I miss the blue!)
