Btdt moms, did you keep those little baby mittens on your wee ones hands? Are they necessary?

Yes - I didn't have many and had to go buy more because I was nervous to cut her nails (and so I didn't do it often enough) and she would scratch the heck out of her face.

I have heard the same from some of my mommie (non-JM) friends. I will be getting at least 2 packs of 2 each. A couple of my friends have also recommended using itty socks in a pinch! Sometimes, depending on the mitten/sock, the sock will stay on better!

No, never bothered to use them with either of my children. So chances are no mittens for this kiddo either. I just trimmed the nails and the kids never scratched at their faces.

I bit the nails. I couldn't get the mittens to stay on, anyway. Hehehehe If I felt like I needed something, I put those mismatched, non-staying-on-baby-feet baby socks to use!

I never used mittens and never trimmed their nails either. Didn't have any issues with scratched faces.

I had mittens for her but found they didn't stay on well. I stocked up on the shirts and sleepers that had the roll-over mittens on the end of the sleeves. Lifesaver! Without those, she would scratch her face.

We used socks because the ones we had wouldn't stay on so I recommend getting the ones that have elastic on them so that they tighten up and stay on. The ones I have are Gerber brand. But I do suggest getting them cause they like to scratch their face!

I never used them and don't plan on it this time around unless we have a terrible scratcher.

I think it's a good thing to have. I don't recall using them long and excessive so I only bought a 2 pack but it is something you def should get. I also think it depends on the baby, some babies may scratch and others not...just be sure to keep their nails trimmed.

I used socks too because the mittens fell off. Sometimes the newborn outfits come with them attached to the sleeve. My kids were always scratching up their faces even with nail trims which is hard in the beginning because their nails are like glued down to the skin.

No baby mittens here. All of my kids have scratched their faces a bit at some point, but nothing major, and I hated having one more thing to lose in the laundry, not having their hands free to grab o to, and my son especially hated not being able to touch things.

Might sound weird...Madisons nails came out long but almost still connected to her finger. I hope that makes sense. We just used the file until I was comfortable with cutting them. I think with Latham I may try the mittens just for added warmth really.

I never used them. Never had a problem with scratching.

I won't buy them this time, either.

I was given a couple pairs but at my breastfeeding class, the LC suggested not using them because some babies will chew on their hands as one of their first hunger cues. I guess the mittens can make that more difficult for them. So I'm not sure, I guess we'll see how it goes.

I'm a FTM, but I did a lot of research on the subject.

I bought these: Amazon.com: 2 Pack Stay on Newborn Baby Mittens - Organic Cotton/Bamboo Mitts (S/M (6-15 lbs / 2.5 - 7 kgs), hopscotch (gray) / bubbles (lime)): Baby

They come in a one pack or a two pack. I just bought one, two pack so each girl has their own pair. They are made out of organic cotton and they washed up like a dream. The reviews are really good on these mittens stating that they stay on better due to the velcro.

I obviously haven't had the chance to try them out yet, but I wanted to let you know what I purchased. Good luck!
