Are we supposed to try out the breast pump before the actual birth of the baby? I know this is a weird question. I actually panicked over the used Pump in Style I have and replacing parts and went out an bought a single electric pump from Evenflo. It looks fairly simple to operate.

Good question! I don't even have mine yet, but when I get it, I probably will leave it in the package unopened until after Scooter arrives in case I need to return it for some reason (i.e. in case I end up renting from the hospital or something).

Not if you're on bed rest. One can use a breastpump to induce or augment labor at term, so those of us trying to keep babies baking should leave them safely packaged (and reduce or avoid other forms of stimulation).
I think I did try out the pump I got with my first, before the bed rest. I'm quite sure it wasn't actuallly necessary, but I wss excited. Lol.

That's kind of what I was thinking...because of the nip stimulation. I guess I was just thinking maybe days before he comes just to see if any colostrum comes out and to make sure I know how to use the thing. HA

Good question. I just got my pump in a few days ago and wondering what happens if I wait another two months before I try it, then it doesn't work.

Agree with the other ladies - don't use it if you're at risk for pre-term labor!

I won't get that option... If I end up pumping for a while, I won't get mine until it's run through insurance.

If you're buying one, check with your insurance! A lot of insurances are covering at least the partial cost of one. There is something about the affordable care act (or whatever it is called)... and some aren't starting until 1/1/13, but it's worth checking in to.
