(12/12) I spent all night last night throwing up and going to the bathroom. Not fun. I wasn't able to keep any fluids down, so I called my doctor this morning and went in around 10. I got an IV and 2 liters of fluid + some anti-nausea medicine (I couldn't keep down zofran even). It took three sticks to get the IV in, and that wasn't fun. I had a scheduled appointment with the doctor tomorrow, so he just did all the checks today. Baby still isn't growing. She is now about 5 weeks behind. Estimated weight at about 4 lbs, when she should be up in the 6 lb+ range. Shes now in the 3rd percentile. boo. So now they've labeled me as a high risk pregnancy and I have to go in twice a week. They made an appointment for me with a specialist. I guess they only come to town once a month, and they are going to be here on Monday, and someone else had cancelled - so I'm grateful that we at least have an appointment to see them. I finally left the office at 2:00.
It's hard because during the appointment the doctor said both that it would be good if I just go into labor naturally in the next week (I'll be 36 weeks on Friday), but that also it would be good if she keeps baking. Mixed feelings! I just want everything to be good! My cervix is almost completely thinned out. So who knows. Anyway, thanks for your support. I just want whats going to be best for baby cakes - it's hard now knowing what that is.

***Update 12/14***
Went in to the hospital today to have a more in depth ultrasound and cord study. Just was able to talk to the doctor over the phone, so not quite as much information as I would've loved, but enough to get me through the weekend. So anyway, baby cakes is indeed small and now officially has the diagnosis of IUGR (intrauterine Growth Restriction). This is because basically the cord is sucky. It's got a high resistance index, and basically the index measures the awesomeness of the cord. At this point, if the index goes up, the quality of the cord is going down. So I've going another NST scheduled for first thing Monday morning, and a meeting with the specialist on Tuesday morning. On Tuesday they will do another cord study, and if the index has risen too much, then that means the cord is deteriorating and they will induce asap. They will also induce if the NST doesn't go well on Monday. Otherwise I've got a tentatively scheduled induction for the 21st which is my 37 week mark. Yay, for 37 weeks and strong lungs. Not looking forward to pictocin, and not quite the birth plan I was hoping for, but at this point, who cares. Plus the timeline is pretty hectic - starting induction on the 21st - probably no baby till the 22nd - few days in the hospital - means maybe DH gets baby cakes in his stocking on Christmas....??? All of the in-law side of the family is arriving in town on the 24th. Yikes!! I'm relieved that they didn't find something wrong with her today, very happy that it's the cord! small victory, but I'll take it! Thoughts and prayers are still appreciated.

Boo!!! I hope you can keep her cooking a little longer, and she puts on some weight. I am hoping because weight measurements can be off this late in pregnancy she is bigger than what they think...

I was in the hospital last night (again...) so I'm away from the computer a lot... Call or text me if anything changes... but I hope you keep her in and get to the specialist to see what they say!

Oh I am so sorry you have to deal with all of this! I am going through the same thing with growth issues and it is not fun at all! I do see a specialist now every week and they monitor Parker with appointments twice a week (one at my regular OB). Have they said if your little one's stomach is smaller than the head or is every part equally small? There are different types of growth restriction is why I ask. I hope they continue to keep a close eye on your little one or you deliver early. Good luck hun!

I'm so sorry. It's so stressful to have a baby not growing properly. It's a tough call, too, when s/he isn't growing because the docs often have no idea if it's a syndrome or something like that keeping the baby from growing (in which case, they're often better off staying in for longer), or if it's something else going on with the cord, placenta, etc. (and then they're better off coming out). I am glad that you're seeing a specialist. Be sure to ask a ton of questions, as many as you can think of. Make it count!

In the meantime, lots of hugs. I'm glad that baby is doing well otherwise in the meantime! Sounds like Mama could use a little pick-me-up, though. <3

Thanks ladies! She's measuring all different sizes. Her head is the biggest. I keep thinking of the line "It's like an orange on a toothpick." Oh gosh. I am very relieved to be able to see the specialist. It will be nice to have some clarity. I'm just having a hard time thinking about having a baby under 5 lbs - and that right now that looks like the best possible outcome. That seems sooooo tiny. Her heart valves, her palate, her head shape, etc all look normal. My main doctor just thinks that she is small and that it's my placenta "running out of gas". He says that it's atypical for someone my age (26) to have that problem. He said that when the placenta is not providing enough fuel that the baby will focus the growth in the most vital area - her head, and that once she starts getting adequate fuel, the rest will catch up. We'll see. Baby cakes has the hiccups right now, and I really like that - it's just so reassuring to feel her.
I could use a pick me up. I'm thinking chocolate cake. but not the labor kind...

I'm glad you're going to be able to see the specialist and hopefully get some answers and reassurance. Not much longer now and she will be safe in your arms. Also, just wanted to let you know that my full-term daughter was under 5lbs (4lb 12oz at birth) and she was completely fine. She was tiny but had no issues and didn't have to spend a single minute in the NICU.

I know that this is so stressful and that you are going through a lot right now, but look at Mary Beth's daughter. She was a tiny little thing and look how perfect and cute she is. Hang in there sweetie. Saying a prayer for you.

That diagnosis stinks and of course its not what you want in terms of the induction but atleast your baby will be better off on the outside should they opt for the 21st. Keep us posted and thanks for updating.

Wow your story is basically identical to mine! Don't worry, we will make sure these IUGR babies are just fine, maybe a bit tiny, but they'll be perfect. Glad you got more information, I find the best way to ease my mind is to do frequent kick counts (after drinking something sugary lol). My induction date (37 weeks) is a few days after yours, the 29th. Let's keep these little ones cooking til then so they are as healthy as can be. Hoping your cord flow checks continue to go well.
