At my 36 week appt my dr did lab work just to be safe because I wasn't feeling good. I honestly forgot all about it. Well they just called and I was really thrown off when I saw their name on my caller ID. So when the nurse proceeded to tell me about my liver enzymes being off and my thyroid being off I was not in a good place to ask questions. They want me to start on Synthroid and said they were calling it in to my pharmacy. I hung up the phone and sat there for a second and started realizing I have no idea what they just told me. So now I'm a nervous nelly not knowing what all this means. I'm 37w 4d and suddenly there is something wrong and I'm so scared this means something could be wrong with BB.
Anyone have any experience with this?

I called the Dr office back and left a message to try to get the info she gave me again.

I am sorry that you are scared. I have thyroid issues too and have been on Synthroid my entire pregnancy. I can only offer to you that the Synthroid will not hurt the baby... My girls are fine. Pregnancy can cause your thyroid to get out of wack. Hang in there and I hope you can get more answers.

They just called back only one of my liver enzymes was high and it was just barely high (they said to be sure to take my prenatal vitamins-which I honestly haven't been good about because of the sickness)
My thyroid numbers were ok all but my T4 and it was low-hense the synthroid. My biggest thing was to make sure BB is ok which she assured me not to worry about that. So I start on Synthroid and maybe it will help me not feel so tired and yucky all the time.

See honey, it is all working out.

Don't expect the Synthroid to work right away. Give it a few weeks, but you should feel better. Just note, if you feel like your heart is racing or just not right, call the doctor right away. Your dosage may need to be altered.

Also, I always had cold feet and a cold nose before my thyroid was under control, now I am fine.

Trust me, baby will be fine. By the time it starts kicking in, she'll be born.

I'm glad your levels were just a "bit" off, rather than anything serious. Mostly, though, glad BB is ok, and she will be here before you know it - healthy as pie!

They found issues with my thyroid with my early pregnancy bloodwork. I'll admit, I totally freaked out. But I started on the Synthroid, and after a couple weeks (it takes some time to build up in your system), the difference in my energy level was like night and day! Before, lifting my arms to drive felt like it was going to kill me, no joke. After, yeah, I was still tired, but much more like a normal pregnancy tired.

So I get tested every 4 weeks in case they need to change my dosage (which can happen a lot with the hormones surging through our bodies) and they'll test again at my 6 week PP appointment to see if I need to stay on it or if it was pregnancy induced.

Hugs mama, it's always scary finding out unexpectedly that something is 'off'. But you'll be feeling better soon!

thanks ladies, I've relaxed now and hoping I feel better with medicine. I've complained about being tired and achy and maybe this will make it better.

So glad it was all cleared up and you'll be taken care of now so you don't feel so crappy.

I had the opposite problem - I was on synthroid before I got pregnant because of "high normal" levels, but once I got pregnant my levels miraculously leveled out and I've had no problems since. I'm scared when I have Parker though my levels will be completely out of whack so I'll be keeping a close eye on it.

My T4 was low too. The High Risk Dr. put me on Synthroid about 6 weeks ago. I also have to be tested every 4 wks. She doubled my dosage after the last test. I was actually relieved to start it because I feel like my thyroid has probably been messed up for years and never diagnosed because they only tested TSH and not T3 and T4. TSH always came back normal. I feel like this may be the reason for my 3 years of infertility, huge thyroid nodule, period issues, heart racing issues, etc. It can also cause symptoms that seem like anxiety and depression....also weight gain. I hate taking medicine but if it fixes all that...I'm thrilled! My sister was also put on Synthroid during her last pregnancy. I think it's pretty common. I hope you are feeling better about it.
