If you haven't seen the news yet about what is happening in Connecticut then just be ready to be shocked, appalled, and disgusted. A gunman (possibly 2) opened fire on an elementary school this morning. Right now they are saying 27 dead including 18 children. I cannot even fathom how/why someone would do such a thing. And of course my pregnant overly hormonal self cannot stop crying whenever I read another news story about it.. Absolutely one of the most upsetting things I have ever seen. My thoughts and prayers go out to those families, I could not imagine their hurt.

It sends chills down my spine. Can you imagine the parents with wrapped gifts and holiday plans that their tiny babies will never experience? Horrific. It's even scarier to hear elementary school students giving their testimony. It's unbelievable that we live in a 1st world country and this kind of thing occurs.

Prayers to those poor families and everyone affected.

It's incredibly sad and makes me so very scared to send my daughter to school for the first time next year.

DH's papaw said something about it but he didn't know if it was a High school or what.

Soo sad to hear it was an elementary school. It would be horrible either way but I just don't understand how someone could kill innocent little children. This world is just getting worse and worse. I don't want to shelter my kids but stories like this make me want to home school them!

Now they'll say he 'had a bad childhood' or 'just need to be put in a mental hospital'. I hate the excuse people come up with anymore! They need to bring back hanging or stoning and make people like that suffer instead of us having to pay to keep them up and fed in prision!

It;s horrific. It makes me sick, and I'm bawling my eyes out.

Some sources are saying it was an entire kindergarten classroom. Started during morning announcements.

The shooter was 24.

What even goes through someone's head to make them even consider this?

Just sickening.

Prayers go out to all of those families affected.

Yeah I have to shut off the tv soon and power down.

If he does have mental health issues than we have a deeper issue. Most health insurance companies do not consider mental health diseases a real disease and a lot of out of pocket expenses accrue. So if it is shown that he was sick, I hope that we start taking mental illness in this country seriously.

Pray for those families and mama's, Karin is right, we are all pregnant and super sensitive, give yourselves a break from the 24 hour news

I am in the same boat with considering home schooling because of things like this, or at the very least a private school with security or something. I'm having a hard time with being ok with sending Parker to a public school eventually when stuff like this happens, and who knows if it'll get better or worse in the next few years.

See it is also really hard for me to come to terms with what would happen if there were 2 shooters and one is caught and would go on to trial. I am studying for my doctorate in forensic psychology, I know the tests they'd give him, I know what they'd plead, I know how it would be likely to pan out, and it is just not enough. It makes me question my choice to pursue this field because if I had to do an evaluation on a person like this I have high doubts that I could remain unbiased. He deserves cruel and unusual punishment, and yet odds are he'd end up in a state mental health prison for the rest of his life, and that just isn't enough. I hope that there was only one gunman and he is dead, because at least he is off this earth one way or another. Sorry about the rant, I just deal with criminals every day, but people that hurt children I purposely steer clear of because I just cannot handle it.

I can't even deal with it. It happened about a half hour from here. I was just there yesterday. Really safe place, great schools, the kind of town people love to raise families in. Horrifying.

The shooter was a 24 year old son to one of the teachers found dead. Beyond sick.

Way late tuning into the news today...just saw. Immediately my emotions being a mother took over and I can't imagine being in this situation. I just don't understand how another human being can do something like this, let alone to children. My heart goes out to everyone involved. I despise the news most days for this reason, always something evil in the world happening. HUGS.

What really scares me is that, that school did have a buzzer system and the school was locked during the day. You had to be buzzed in to gain access to the school and somehow this killer was able to do that (well it makes sense in light of the fact that his mother was one of the teachers, but still). I remember in the wake of school shootings, my former HS put those kinds of rules in place and systems and yet it is still not enough!

So scary.

I already second guess everytime I drop Madison at school and they have a security checkpoint with cameras and Id...etc. I know that doesn't mean anything but this is enough to make any parent consider the safety of public schooling. Thing is this is happening more and more in other public settings. Our safety is being subjected everything. It makes me ill. Another sad thing I hate to say is...we will hear about this in depth for about a week or so then it will get brushed under the rug.

This makes my heart hurt. I can't stop crying. My four-year-old asked why I was sad and all I could say was that I love her and her sisters so much, that I love her more than the whole world.

The death of any child is beyond tragic, but something like is just unthinkable. Praying hard for all those families.

How does someone even do that? Those innocent children and his mother?? I just can't even fathom it all. It is absolutely disgusting. Right now all I want to do is get my kids and hug them close.
