For the longest time we were set on naming our little girl Sarah Elizabeth and calling her Sarah Beth. We love the name Sarah and Elizabeth is his mom's name...each of his siblings have given their daughter Elizabeth as a middle name. We didn't with our first so dh said he wanted to do it this time around. I said sure. Sarah is actually a name I had picked out forever ago. I just love it.

BUT

Eleanor made it to the list when we found out it was a girl. There were three names; Sarah, Eleanor, and Haddie. I nixed Haddie and DH preferred Sarah to Eleanor. While I love the name Sarah, for some reason I am now drawn to Eleanor a little bit more. How cute would Ellie sound? Only thing is...while Eleanor Elizabeth sounds fine, I don't like the way it sounds with our last name if you don't include her middle name - Eleanor Spain...something about it just doesn't sound right!

UGH!

DH is still set on Sarah but I told him we would just have to wait and see if she looks more like a Sarah or an Eleanor!

There all beautiful names....I found myself doing the same this week with names and reconsidering my girl names....in the end I have reverted to the name I originally picked as it has always been my favorite. Good Luck and yes....sometimes seeing the baby first is often helpful!

Im sure once you see her you will know right away if she is a Sarah or a Eleanor. I love Ellie as a nick name, that's what we planned to call Ellen. So cute!

I love Eleanor. I would want to call her Eleanor though; I love the nn Ellie too but Eleanor is just a beautiful name. I wouldn't worry about how it sounds with your last name, I think it's fine!

I think both sound great with your last name. I agree though, once you see here you'll know if she's a Sarah or an Eleanor.

I don't think there is anything wrong with Eleanor Spain, but I do love the way Sarah Beth Spain sounds, not to throw you off

I think both names are beautiful and timeless and that it is really easy to start second guessing yourself! I have done that over and over with our name, but every time I even consider another, it never lives up to our original choice, plus it took us long enough to come to an agreement on a name that we both liked!

Play around with it a bit, try the name out, but remember that you are right, you can always wait until she arrives to make your final decision.

I know...isn't Eleanor just beautiful!!

Maybe sharing the boys' names will help... William Riley (he goes by Riley) and Samuel Charles (Sammy most times).

I love them both!!! I love Eleanor - I love Ellie - LOVE LOVE. But I love Sarah Beth too! I think you should wait and see what she looks like when she's here...that's our plan!

Yes! This is a great idea. Then you can have the four syllables in the first name but simplify with the middle, still honor your DH's family tradition, call her Ellie if you want (or Ellie Beth, which is cute, too), and "Eleanora" sounds so elegant with "Spain."
