Has anyone ever used Mirena as a form of birth control, I originally said I didn't want to go on birth control but I had my PP visit today and my doctor recommended it as you never need to remember to take a pill and it can be removed at any time. I am a little skeptical though......Anyone?

I had it after DS1. I gained 30lbs and felt bloated, pregnant and just weird and those symptoms all went away went I got it removed. Except the weight lol.

BUT I have 2 friends who have it and haven't gained weight on it or had any other problems so just depends I guess.

I havent had an IUD but I am getting the paragard next month. My dr. mentioned the Mirena to me but hormones mess with me so badly that Im not even risking the low dose that Mirena has. I dont need to be crazier than I already am lol

Just me personally, no condemnation here (& I had my tubes tied), but I had thought about trying Mirena after my last pregnancy and decided not to because an egg can be fertilized using it which doesn't gel with my beliefs. Granted this is more likely with the regular iud without hormones. I hadn't really thought about this until my doctor brought it up so thought I'd share. Not that it isn't perfectly okay for others. I had a friend that did great with it.

I had the Mirena put in after DS was born and had it in about 4 years before deciding to expand the family

I loved it and would recommend it to everyone. No symptoms and would maybe have a light (and I mean light) period once every 6 months.

I already have it scheduled to be put back in on March 4th!

I had it after DS2 didn't really like it. I couldn't lose any weight and bled forever!! (like 4 months!) It was not fun so I had it taken out, and then started losing weight again, but it was harder.

I had a horrible time with it... I only ended up keeping it maybe a year and a half tops. Probably less than that.

I'm very sensitive to hormones, so it could be that. I was on one pill after having ODD that worked perfectly. Then my insurance changed and they didn't cover it, and I haven't found anything that works with my body since then. I had constant discharge and yeast infections with the Mirena. My OB kept telling me that it couldn't possibly be from Mirena, so I changed OBs, they pulled it out on my first visit, and my issue went away.

So, really, it just depends on the person.

Thanks Everyone! Well, first I need to contact my insurance and even see if it's covered...if not then forget about it.....if yes, then I guess I have a decision to make......

I had one as well. I bled for a long time after getting it. The worst part of it for me though was after it was removed. I had horrible cramping and bleeding (more bleeding than PP bleeding) for close to 2 weeks.

I would not get another one.

Wait, an egg can still fertilize, how??

Well, Mirena is covered 100% with a $0 co-pay.....that was a shock since our insurance really stinks!! Anyway, there has been more negative reviews on here than positive so I am leaning towards not getting it but not 100%......however, I need to do something because I cannot get pregnant....just yet

I guess the same way you can get pregnant on bcp. My Dr was very conservative. Just from experience, Clairre was a birth control accident. It can happen, and the whole idea of an iud is to prevent fertilized eggs from implanting. When we discussed it, I decided that I would be more comfortable with an accident- lo and behold!

I'm not saying that others shouldn't get them if they feel its the right choice. I just know for me, personally, I'm not comfortable with it.
