After seeing the solids thread, I thought I would post a new thread for this topic.

I know I have about 2 months or so, but I am starting the research on what I need to make and store my own baby food. What are other moms doing and using? For BTDT moms, what did you use?

I have looked into the Breeza (sp?), the Beaba, and the baby bullet. I also am considering just using my own food processor or getting a regular bullet so I can use it more long term.

I am wondering whether the baby food makers will be large enough for making a large batch to freeze.

Thoughts?

I've been doing a LOT of research into this (in fact I have a Pinterest board dedicated to it). I've heard great things about the baby bullet, although I feel like you could easily do the same thing with your own blender. I've heard freezing it in little tupperware cases made for baby food is a great way to go, but I've also heard that you shouldn't make a big batch until you know baby likes the food/isn't allergic to it so I probably won't make large batches for awhile. Also, baby bullet has a great blog with different puree recipes so that you can mix things together to create different flavors that baby might like.

I've also done a lot of reading about Baby Led Weaning (the idea behind it is that during the first year, eating is more about baby exploring foods, learning how to chew and swallow and feed him or herself. They still get most of their nutrients from formula or breastmilk. The idea is to skip rice cereals and purees and let your baby eat what you are eating (within reason) and let them feed themselves. There are guidelines to what is right for 6-8 months, 8-12 months etc and different recipes for meals that you can make for your family and modify for the baby. At first it seemed kind of bizarre to me, but the more I read about it the more I like the sound of it. It encourages baby to be a part of the family during mealtime and to eat and try new foods when they are ready. I also think when you look at eating solids less as a nutritional must and more as a way for baby to explore food and eating, it makes it sound a lot less stressful. There's no pressure, they just eat when they are ready. It's definitely not for everyone, but I think I am going to give it a shot and see how it goes. If it's a huge fail, then I think I am going to make the purees and if that goes well, freeze some batches.

I have been researching this since before I was pregnant, along with my brother (since when we started he was the one with baby). We will likely get an immersion blender to make most foods and are also strongly considering the Beaba. We will store food in individual servings and use a container that I can't recall the brand right now. My brother went through several trials if different freezer solutions before ending up with one they love. I can't remember the name though. There is a great cookbook called 101 Baby Purees that we will use to start. It has recipes for every age and how you can adapt recipes as baby grows. I the immersion blender is going to be the key, though. Cook everything then toss in a pot and blend. Plus we can use it for more than just baby food.
