We'll be married four years in July and try to follow the "traditional" gift ideas. if you're into that then the sencond year is cotton. DH got clothes and I asked for and received new bathroom towels. My mom was like "that's not what you get/ask for" but that's what I wanted.
What kinds of things is he into? Maybe a gift certificate to something he enjoys or maybe something you could could do together, as simple as the movies.
DH and I also follow the traditional gifts for our anniversary. I got him a cotton shirt and he got me a cotton themed gift basket with a cotton robe, fluffy towel, and cotton scented lotions and soap.
If you can't think of gift ideas, why not find someone to watch the kids and have a nice date night. I am sure both of you would enjoy the couple time. Go to a movie and get some dinner or maybe even just go for a nice walk and stop in a park or something and lay down a blanket and pop a bottle of wine or bubbly (if the park allows alcohol).
Our second is at the end of next month. Going with the cotton theme, dh is getting a new French cuff dress shirt, cotton lingerie for me to wear, and possibly a new bathrobe. China is the modern traditional gift... I looked at a couple of idea lists, but they were all pretty girly.
For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother's womb...I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made...My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place, when I was woven together...Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be. Psalm 139: 13-16
I just remembered... I did get something for DH for our anniversary! Our theme was wood, so I found a couple near things in Pinterest, made them, then put them in nice wood frames! One is a page with our marriage by the numbers thing (ie 5 years together, 3 dogs, 6 trips to sturgis, etc). And the other is three heart shaped maps, each highlighting a city - where we met, where we got married, where we live know and underneath each it says "met", "married", "love" (or something similar). If you want to go unique, try Pinterest for some cute homemade ideas!
