This may be TMI but I am really confused. I have been having spotting and bleeding on a weird schedule. It will happen for about 2 days and then again two weeks later for 2 days. I've been keeping track because I wanted to figure out my cycle since I'm not on BC (using condoms, till we TTC this fall). The thing that I'm confused about is I'm breastfeeding and I always thought that you don't get your period when you are breastfeeding. At my 6 wk checkup my doctor said that I was ovulating already and she seemed a bit surprised. Do you gals have any ideas for me???

From what I have heard, you can still ovulate and get your period while breast feeding...I believe the majority of the time most women won't, but there are some who do... my guess is maybe since you are breastfeeding it is shorter periods, but I am not sure why it would only be 2 weeks apart unless you have very short cycles...Not sure, have you talked to your doctor at all? I am breastfeeding and on the mini pill (we will probably ttc the end of next year) and I have not gotten my period as of yet...

I'm not breastfeeding so I'm not sure. I do know that my sister got pregnant while breastfeeding.

My first AF just started last night, (Happy New Year, huh? lol) and I'm exclusively BFing. I felt so cheated. lol I was really looking forward to not having one. Oh well. I look at it this way, at least the information of when I'm ovulating will help me in the not concieving again until I'm ready. Figures I'd be one of the few BFing women that gets it. Rats. I feel your pain, girl. Not sure about the timing of your bleeding though. Maybe give your doc a quick call about it?

I am EBF and was wondering about the same thing.
The other day I had some spotting and then a day before as well, but not like AF, just a dot here and there.
I thought it was kind of weird too and in some way a bit disappointed since I was hoping not to have one at all.

You are not alone!

Thanks girls, I'm not sure what to think either - if I get it again this week I'm going to call my Dr. It isn't a heavy flow, but considering how many changes our bodies just went through I guess some of it all is bound to be different than before.

Just wanted to let you know mine's really light as well. Nothing like my normal AF. I'll let you know if it becomes abnormal in any other ways. Let us know what your doc says if you talk to him.

every woman is different, so your physiology is going to be different. i hink the "norm" was that you wouldn't have your cycle while breastfeeding, but with so many other factors affecting your body nowadays, that it is not unusual for women to have their cycles while nursing.

I'm exclusively breastfeeding too and AF showed up on 12/30 ugh. I was very surprised. With my last baby I didn't get it at all for the entire year that I nursed him. I had my tubes tied so I could definitely do without it.
