My friend had one and she showed me her video of it and it looked like it would be great. It kind of scares me the baby being born under water though. I keep thinkign what if he/she doesn't come right out. I am sure that they would get you out of the water but doesn't sound like much fun being drug out of the pool in the middle of pushing.
I liked laboring in the bath though so it has a certain appeal to me.

I think it's great. I have some friends who had water births and loved them.

I know my suite has a jacuzzi, but I'm not sure if it is to have the baby in or get in when you are getting ready to go into active labor.

The jacuzzi sounds like it would be nice. I've seen water births on TV and have always been interested in it, but I don't know how I'd feel about actually doing it. It looks like its relaxing and maybe not so painful?? I'm not even sure where its available in my area, though.

I'd LOVE to have a water birth, I've always wanted one, but because we'll be on Army insurance, we don't have our pick of doctors OR hospitals, they just give you a list. Sometimes there's birthing centers on the list, but sometimes there isn't.
Baby's going to be born in Cali, though, and that's kind of a hippie place, maybe they'll have water births there hehe

I had a waterbirth with my 3rd. I hope to have another (maybe November!)
Water relieves pressure.
There is an awesome site Waterbirth Internationalthat can likely answer a lot of questions.

I've seen a couple water births, expecially in some of my undergrad psych classes, and in theory, I think they are wonderful. However, I am a wimpy girl who was thrilled last night when NBC Nightly News did a story on a research study, conduct on 750 women, that basically said, it doesn't matter when you start your epidural... it doesn't effect the baby. (Starting early in labor vs. starting later, when the pains are more intense.) With this information, I am only half joking when I say I want the anesthesiologist to meet me in triage. LOL.
