I'm sure there's been a thread on this before, but I can't remember...what do your Dr.'s recommend starting after rice cereal? Oatmeal?

We did rice cereal for about a month, then we skipped to bananas, then apples and rice cereal (in one of those jars, it's pre-mixed), and now we moved on to turkey and sweet potatoes, vegetables and chicken, and beef and vegetables. She seems to like the turkey best. Our doc said just play it by ear, and introduce something new once a week. It's more of a calorie thing for us...I base what I pick out on what jar has the most calories listed on it lol
We're skipping pure fruits altogether for now, b/c I'm allergic to most fruits. Though I've tried apple juice and water with her, and also apples and rice cereal like I said above, and she's not allergic to that.

Ditto to Lisa.. we did the exact same thing. Rice, oatmeal, barley, mixed grains. I did a week of each (except mixed grains.. I got too impatient LOL)
We're on sweet potatoes now (our first food.. carrots next), but I'm just mixing half a jar with his morning cereal right now.

At 4 months we did a week each of Rice then Oatmeal...then just alternated them each day for a full month before we went on to vegitables. When he turned 5 months we started with sweet potatoes, for a week, then did about 3 days of squash, but he broke out in a little rash on the 3rd day...so we decided to try carrots...and he broke out BAD! Tiny bumps all over his cheeks, chin, ears, eyelids, even a couple on his arms. I didn't dare give him any more of it. So we stopped everything again...except for rice and oatmeal. The rash went away and I was trying to decide if I was going to go ahead and start him on green vegitables or not...But I finally found Barley cereal last night. I have looked everywhere and Target finally had some. So we bought some and tried it last night and he loves it. We are going to try that for about a week or so and if no problems arrise then we will be going to green vegitables next week.

I had a hard time finding barley initially too. Walmart and our grocery stores don't have it but Target and Babies R Us do.
ETA: Amy I just saw your ticker so I looked at your member info...anyway you have the same bday as by brother and it's 12 days after mine...I'll be 30 too...ugh!

Holly eats Oatmeal cereal, we have tried barley and I thought it was making her very gassy, so I switched back to oatmeal but she is still gassy- I have no idea what's causing it, it might be her formula. Anyway we have tried bananas, sweet potatoes and now pears, I mix it in with her morning cereal, about a 1/4 of a jar with about 2-3 TBSP of cereal.

We did rice cereal first, then oatmeal. I skipped barley and mixed grains all together. I guess I'll go back and do them later.
She has had all of the stage one fruits and veggies and is now on stage one meats. So far she's had bananas, applesauce, peaches, pears, prunes ( just when she's constipated ), mangos, green beans, carrots, squash, sweet potatoes, chicken, and turkey... tomorrow we finish up turkey and the next day we start beef.

We went from rice cereal to veggies (carrots & sweet patatoes first), then greens (peas, green beans), then fruits (applesauce & peaches) then pears & bananas and then oatmeal. My pedi said to start on oatmeal after a few fruits & veggies because it's semi hard to digest? then barley cereal...and then level 2 foods mixed with some cereal.
I think every pedi is different though

lol I'm so glad you posted this. We're a bit behind most of you. I just bought our first boxes of cereal tonight and we are going to try the rice one tomorrow morning. I was looking for the barley at the grocery store, cause I remembered Lisa mentioning it, but couldn't find it for the life of me! Now I know to go check Babies R Us. I think we're gonna do 5-7 days of each cereal and then move onto the veggies.

we skipped cereal altogether (have done that all three times, actually). My first food for them is homemade applesauce for a few weeks before we try green beans or sweet potatos or whatever I decide to go for next.
Felicity was really getting pissed that I wasnt sharing my food with her. Like "gimme your chciken salad sandwich, gimme your chili, give it to me NOW" so I started feeding her at suppertime yesterday.
She has already mastered the two handled sippy cup.
