Have you ever had a surprise party for someone?

I am planning a party for my dh for his 40th. I think I am going to have it at a local brewery/restaurant. They have a room that I can reserve, but now I am looking at the menu and thinking of what I will have to pay and having second thoughts.... Do you think it is expensive to pay $48 for a platter of 80 wings, or $34 for 30 stuffed potato skins? If I get entrees to be served buffet style, it is $80 for 12 servings of Chicken Bascilica, or $60 for 12 servings of a penne dish... I am looking at over $250 right there. Add $45 more for 12 servings of a tossed salad. So far I have ten people, with possibily ten more coming.

I don't know what to do...I don't want to spend too much money but I need to go somewhere other than our house for this because our house is too small to hold 20 people.

That does sound pricey. I was thinking maybe a community center??? We have a couple different ones here and they rent out rooms of all sizes, but then that cancels out your savings of pricey food.
