Common Core Standards?

Most of the states have adopted them, and it will change curriculum and schools all over the country.

They are very rigorous. The bar has been raised. We'll see if it helps.

Common Core State Standards Initiative | Home

The teachers I work with are stressed. For example, our Everyday Math Program will not meet the Common Core Standards, and teachers will have to scramble to find the right materials to help the students meet the new expectations. The math standards make total sense though, and especially on the foundational levels in K, 1, and 2 students will focus on less and learn more in depth so that they have a stronger foundation for the highter math.

I'd heard of this, but hadn't really paid attention to it. Looking at the map, I see why... Texas is a state that hasn't implemented this. I like the way it's laid out. It's very easy to understand what kids in each grade should know before progressing to the next grade. I don't think it's too rigorous, but I think it'll be challenging for some, especially given overpopulation of classrooms, shorter instruction times, less than supportive parents and lack of necessary tools to teach.

How old is your EDM series ? We purchased the new series and it aligns with Common Core.
