Well, Melanie started with a runny nose on Sunday night. We figured play it by ear. By the middle of the night she had a cough so we decided to cancel or delay the camping trip. With her already getting sick she didn't need to be camping and probably getting sicker.

DS was really disappointed until we decided to clear the living room and set up our "small" tent (we have a 4 man dome and a 3 room tent). So he's sleeping in the tent in the living room on his "adventure" (so far he's had bears try to get in and he scared them away, he's had rain storms with loud thunder, and a coyote tried to eat his foot {was the dog licking his foot} and that was all before he went to sleep, who knows what his imagination will draw up in the morning) an had a blast before falling asleep later than usual (which we figured was fine since it was supposed to be our first night camping). He finally fell asleep at 11:30! And he's got a fun day planned for us for tomorrow... We're taking him for a bike ride through "the woods" (apparently the neighborhood around us is the woods), then we're having "hot dogs cooked on fire" (over the BBQ) and for dinner DS gets to help DH make some camp food they won't tell me about an then we'll light the BBQ again and "roast marshmellows" (he says "I like them black mommy, way way black cause then the inside is really gooey"). And I know I left out some things (like flying the kite in the park, flying his airplane at the the park, and a "hike" to name a few...

Hopefully the weather will stay fairly nice if not better and Melanie will feel better in time for us to go camping before we get bombarded with work again. In the meantime I'm enjoying DS's creative imagination and Melanies shrieks everytime she sees the tent and goes running to play inside it.

He does have a very vivid imagination. Whenever we go for walks he is always creating strange things that are happening during our walks (the vines have arms and will grab you, the light poles bite, the sidewalk cracks are really mouths that will eat your legs "all up" if you step on them, he shoots "monsters" with his "laser beam" (hands) and most recently he has webs just like spiderman.

I have to admit I loved watching him "camping" in the living room and look forward to taking him camping for real (its will be his second trip, 1st was around 18 months) but we're going to wait until Melanies well and its a bit warmer, maybe around 4th of July since we have black out work days then too. Of course is the grocery stores go on strike we may do it sooner since our company won't have us cross the line for up to 1 month after it starts at all.

In the meantime we've taken the tent down for the day and DH and DS are "cooking breakfast" which suddenly changed because DS wants "camping eggs an toast"

Sorry you had to cancel your trip, but that's great that he's making the best of it!
