I am so mad at myself. I went to Ottawa last night shopping (about half hour away) & at the mall I took Dierk out of his car seat to feed. When I put him back in he was sleeping so I just laid him in the carseat & continued on with my shopping. After being exhausted from shopping we came home. I went to take him out of his carseat inside the house & when I took the blanket off him I then realized I never buckelled him back up. I had driven all the way home in the rain with him totally unsafe. Needless to say I called Ron & was balling on the phone. I feel so bad ... I mean what if something had happened.

Don't dwell on the "what ifs..." I did the same thing when Gabby was a baby. We were in the mall shopping, I took her out to nurse her, laid her back in the seat, covered her up and never rebuckled her. I, like you, felt sooooo guilty, I cried and checked and double checked the seat for weeks after!!
Another time, I was babysitting my cousin's then 3 or 4 year old and went on a hour and a half road trip to a friends house. Just before we got there, my boyfriend at the time took a sharp right turn and Brittney, in her seat, toppled right over. When her dad had switched the seat from his car to mine, he hadn't buckled it in, and when my boyfriend buckled Britt into it, he hadn't checked it, so she was buckled to the seat, but not the car. She was so upset we had to pull over so I could hold her for a few minutes to calm her down. It was an accident, and she was fine, but I felt horrible!!!
Aw,hon...it was a total accident. But I understand how you feel...not the same, but I have forgotten to buckle Emily before. Thankfully she tells me a block or so after driving and I pull over and give her a hand to buckle her. It's scary to think of the 'what if's' (((HUGS)))

Well... about couple of weeks ago I asked Matthew to get Evan in his carseat. Well, Matthew saw Evan sitting in it, and thought I had done it. I saw Evan sitting in it, and thought Matthew had buckled him in as asked... WELL... about 20 mins later, we stop and I go to get Evan out and he isn't buckled in. I about had a cow. We are extra careful now.
HUGS!

Aw hon, I know it makes you feel bad but we've ALL made mistakes! I did the same thing with Sam one time as NHmom, He was buckled into his seat but not the car!
He was only 1. :-( I went around a turn and the whole seat went over, I pulled over immediately! Dh had the seat out to vacuum out the car & neglected to buckle the seat back in. I didn't check, I just assumed it was- well, because it always was!
It's ok, you're ok, Dierk's ok... you had your moment but everyone's all right! *HUGS*
You know.....I think half the mothers in the world have done that!! I did it once with both of my kids when they were babies. I know it completely horrifies you, but the important thing is that he is safe and that you totally didn't mean too!!!
Been there, done that. More then once I might add.... What I did was hook the arm latches got distracted and forget to do the bottom snaps. TWICE!! Nobody is perfect. But I know what you mean about feeling bad.
