For Charlie's wagon cake (I still can't believe I'm going to attempt this...) I need Radio Flyer red for the frosting. I remember when I did Mike's flag cake that the red looked more like a dark pink. What can I use to make sure it's truly red??

Thanks!!

I'm not a cake decorator and I'm sure Trina can help you with this.....but from what I've read, everyone recommended americolor icing gel over wilton.

Here's their website.

You really do need to get Americolor red red icing gel.... otherwise if you use food coloring or another brand you'll end up with 1 or 2 problems .... 1 being that the frosting will stain everything (like peoples fingers or mouth when eating it) or 2 you'll end up with very bitter tasting frosting.

Get pink and red red. Start by tinting your icing pink and then add the red. The color will deepen as it sits so make it a day in advance if possible so that you can let it sit overnight to find out what color it really will be

So, if ordering it won't work, is there any way I can use Wilton and make it work??

Yes, you can get it to work with wilton but it's a bit more difficult. Still start with tinting the icing a pretty dark pink and then buy Wilton No Taste Red (it will help prevent the bitter taste because you'll need to use quite a bit). Once you have it pink, start adding the Red a bit at a time and let it sit for a while to find out how it's going to darken!

I used the Wilton no taste red for Jehans Elmo cake and let me tell u it practically took the whole bottle to get the red I wanted. I wish it was redder but it worked out fine and overnight it looked a little darker. Good Luck!! Dont forget to post pics of your cake.
