As you all know I was induced because of Pre-Eclampsia; I was incredibly swollen everywhere because of it. Well, it's been three days since I've been induced and my feet are painfully swollen. I mean painfully. I can't bend my toes and when I walk down the stairs or walk my feet just feel so tight. It's terrible!!
Does anyone know anything I could do to relieve this?
my grandma had diabetes (not gestional) and when she was pregnant with my dad, she had swollen to 5 times her normal size. im not sure if was because of her diabetes, or what, but she would wrap ACE bandages, put ice packs on the outside for 20 minutes at a time and try to keep her feet elevated. after she was much older, she did the same thing, a complication of her diabetes and would wear compression-support hose to help. make sure to keep lotion on your skin, i have extra dry skin and i found that the collegen-elastin lotion by st. ives works every well.
i know her condition was very different, but it did help her, to a point. unfortunately, she lost her long, painful battle with diabetes 13 months ago. she had had it as a child and baffled doctors that she lived for 75 years. she had HUGE babies, my dad was 11 lbs and 20 inches in 1949, an elephant back then and im sure, by today's standards, too. she had him naturally. she was strong and brave, i wish i could be more like her.
I was pretty swollen for a couple days after I delivered - mainly my ankles and my fingers. I just kept my feet up a lot, and it went away by itself. Then again, I didnt have pre-eclampsia, so it might be different ((hugs)) Definately uncomfortable tho, either way!
its not from the PreE well at least i dont think so...did u have an epi? i was so swollen afterwards and they said something about the epi causes hormonal changes and something with retaining water...i couldnt walk bc of it
Steph, you're making sense...!! It could be because of the Epi! I couldn't feel my legs when I had the epi, so it makes complete sense to me!! How did you feel better from that
it went away on its own they told me to just keep my feet up...my feet finally went completly down id say on thursday so it took about a wk....when i saw my unswollen feet i couldnt believe that they where so swollen the entire pregnancy
LOL!! Between running back and forth to the hospital I haven't had time to write the story!! I wrote some of it, but I didn't finish it. I will tell you one thing...MY MOM PASSED OUT!!!! lol Birth story is gonna come soon!!
i was nervous too after Isaac was born..My ob had to tell me..LOL..I thought all the swelling was GD or pre eclampsia related..but he said it was normal..go figure..LOL

Jen I also had pre-e and was extremely swollen for about a week and a half after Grace was born. It was from the pre-e. My hands were also numb from the swelling. I really didn't look like myself. Anyway regardless of whether the swelling is from the pre-e or not it will eventually go away. I know it sucks. My hands are still a little numb. I know you were worried about how quickly you would lose weight, and I'll bet you drop a ton really fast because of the pre-e. I have lost 45 pounds in two weeks and I know it was from all of the swelling going down. Just thought I'd add that.

My hands and feet are finally looking normal again too! I can wear my wedding ring for the first time since July 4th. My dr told me it would take a bit of time to go away and to keep my feet elevated.
