I have been dying to drink a glass of wine this whole pregnancy and now that its over, I really want a glass of wine. I am breastfeeding so I'm not sure its ok. I researched it a little bit and it says its ok but not to breastfeed an hour after drinking the glass of wine? Does anyone know exactly what we can and cannot have? I was thinking maybe having a glass of wine and just giving her a bottle of formula before bed and resume breast feeding, three hours later when she wakes for her feeding. ( I am doing both breast milk and formula) I only give her two bottles of formula throughout the day. One in the afternoon and one at night but she is breastfed all day.

According to the lactation specialist that conducted the breastfeeding class that I went to, a glass of wine or a beer or two will not affect the baby at all. Only when you consume it to the point where you are intoxicated. She also said that if you have an alcoholic beverage, you do not need to "pump and dump". Again, only if you drink enough to become intoxicated. I'm not saying that one should make a habit of drinking a glass each night, but I don't think one glass here and there will hurt you or the baby. Just be responsible. And if in doubt, just pump and dump.

Go for it!!! You deserve a glass after 9 months of pregnancy! Celebrate!!

Popping in from Aug DDC....when bf my last baby I would have a glass of wine every now and then with dinner. I would always pump and dump at the next feeding time. Do you have pumped milk you can use for a feeding? You really don't have to if you wait an hour after 1 glass but it just always made me feel better.

If I am having more than a glass of wine I pump before, or time it right, so that I drink it right after I nurse. I don't alter anything if i'm just having one glass. My doctor as well as the pediatrician said that it was fine.

ok good. I just wanted to make sure. It was our anniversay on the 9th and I was planning on cooking a "special" dinner for us on saturday and having a glass of wine. I guess i can do the pump and dump as well just to be on the safe side
