These past 2 weeks have been... eventful and full of tears.
My little sweet man is scheduled for surgery a week from tomorrow (friday) to remove one of his testicles. He had a torsion and the testicle lost bloodflow and died. What I dont think I told you was that when he was 2 days old and we were still in the hospital, they pretty much ripped him out of my arms and raced him in an ambulance (in the scariest medical contraption I've ever seen) to Boston's Mass General Hospital to try to save it, but it was too late. DH went with him in the ambulance but they wouldnt release me from the hospital because I was still too weak. I was in absolute hysterics and my blood pressure shot WAY up. It was quite a scene with doctors and surgeons yelling at each other and me screaming at Neo-natal department heads for just leaving my DH in the NICU with DS and not getting him information about what was going on or what was going to happen next. Our pediatrician was amazing and fought so hard and was on our side through the entire ordeal. The surgery is going to be simple with an easy recovery.. the hardest part is putting him under general anestesia at such a young age. DH and I will sleep at the hospital overnight with him next friday.
Anyway...
Alex passed his VCUG test for his kidneys which is great news for the the Hydronephrosis (It means he does not have kidney reflux). That just means we need to get some ultrasounds once a month to make sure he is growing out of the kidney problem. This is the best scenario for this issue.
So we're just having some scary times.. but in the big scheme of things that could be wrong, we know we are lucky and these issues are easily resolved with just some minor surgery.. its just heart wrenching for us as new parents. I think it is harder on us than it is on him. He's not in any pain and is really a good baby. He sleeps in 4 hour shifts at night and rarely fusses unless there is something wrong. We are very lucky parents.
Now if I could only figure out the little things....
I'm such an unsure new mommy.

((((((((HUGS)))))))) DH had a partial tortion when he was younger (around 12 I think). Luckily they were able to fix it and he didnt need it removed. I feel so bad for you little guy. That's alot to go through in 2 weeks. Sounds like he'll be a-ok after the surgery though. I"m sure everything will go smoothly.
oh your poor sweet little man! Is it absolutely medically necessary to remove it? I mean if he's fine, why not leave it as is? Sorry I don't know much about that stuff just thought I would ask. Anyway, I'm glad the kidneys look to be A-OK though!!! That's a blessing in itself. GL with the surgery. Everything will be just fine I'm sure of it.
im so sorry that u are going through this. i hope everythiing gets better, it is good that things with his kidney are better. lots of hugs for you and your sweet baby
man, what a lot to deal with, you sound like you are doing a great job (as much as you may feel so yucky about it). he is lucky to have such a good mom and dad - and great medical care.
as if becoming a new mom is not hard enough in itself. we are all thinking of yoiu and hope the very best comes to you, dave and little baby alex.
You are a very strong women to be going through all this at since a special time in your life. I cant even begin to think of what you went through when he was 2 days old and that happened. You are a strong women!!
Glad to hear that the kidneys are a-ok. How long does he have to go for ultrasounds? For a full year or is this something that he will have to do for the rest of his life?
Thinking of you. You guys are in my thoughts and prayers. Good Luck Next Friday!
*hugs* That's a LOT to be going through right now. Sounds like everything will work out though for you guys. I'll be thinking about little Alex...he sounds like such a trooper.
That really sucks. I've never heard of that happening before... that torsion thing. Weird. I hope things get to looking better for little Alex! Just try not to get upset, because they can sense that stuff, and I think it makes 'em a little uneasy. He's still got LOTS of growing to do, though, so I'm sure he'll be a strong little boy given all that's happening.
That's awesome news about the kidneys. I have typed it before - but I think your little boy is one of the most adorable newborns I have seen!
I am sorry about all of the other stress you have had to endure. I can only imagine. I hope that the surgery goes ok and that you can now concentrate on just spending quality time with your little man and put the stress and worry behind you. Good luck with everything.
Hang in there, Liz. You've definitely been through a rough time. I'm glad that you have such a great supportive husband. From what I remember, you also have a great group of supportive friends around you--don't be afraid to take them up on offers for help. You deserve it!
It's awesome that you can see the "bright side" in the midst of all you've been through. I'm sure you're right--that this has all been harder on you and your hubby versus Baby.
And yes, I agree Alex sure is cute!!!

OH man Liz, so much has happened in 2 weeks. He will be fine though, a healthy, happy boy. Like you said, we are all so lucky that these things can be fixed and that he will make it through this.
Aw, Liz! You, Dave and little Alex are in my thoughts. I've been wondering how everything was going. I really hope that the surgery goes okay! He sounds like such a trooper...
It'll be okay hun! We're always here for you if you need to vent or need anything.

^ hey, mine too (bet they'd love us telling "strangers" on the internet about it!!).
I have a friend (actually her son was born 03/28/05!) whose son had the same problem, and needed his removed. The surgery went very well. I'll certainly be hoping the same for you. Poor little guy, it makes me want to cry too! *hugs* he's sooo beautiful!
