Soo...(depending on when you started) the school year is now halfway through.
How is the year going for your child? Have you seen a lot of growth since the start of the year? Is there anything special your child is looking forward to in the coming months?
Eric has gotten over the honeymoon of being in Kindergarten and moved on to just being bored. He has made some huge progress and is now reading Bob books and getting better every day - but his in-class behavior is steadily getting worse too, probably in math most of the time since he is a VERY math-minded kid. I've sent an email to his teacher about ways to help keep him engaged and challenged, and hopefully things will turn around...because he wants to love school!

Aww...Eric is so smart. I've always noticed that ever since our kids were toddlers. Hopefully first grade will provide some new challenges for him.
Matt is doing really well this year. We had a few issues in the first weeks, but nothing since then. He is doing so well, and we are really proud of him. He's reading on his own, and he brings home green lights (good behavior) almost every day. However, if they have a sub he doesn't get a green light, so I don't know if his behavior changes, or if his regular teacher is just not used to him. His usual teacher seems to understand that he is a very active little boy, and just wants him to do the best he can do. We have been so lucky with his teacher this year. He loves her and talks about her all the time, and I have been very pleased as well. Their school has very little in the way of resources, but she has really put together a nice classroom and kindergarten experience for the kids.
This spring Matt is looking forward to checking out books from the library. For some reason they don't let the kindergarten kids do that the first half of the year...I guess they want to teach them how to use the library and care for the books first. In any case, next week will be his first chance.
I'm glad things are going well for Matt! He's a smart kid too - we seem to have a lot of those around here, LOL. I'm glad his teacher understands him too, that makes a huge difference. Our July kids, especially the boys, are young enough to NEED to be active... Sitting that long can be tough!
I hope he enjoys library privileges! Eric's been able to do the library since the start of the school year, and while he loves it, he (and I!) are really bad at keeping track of which day is library day and sending the books back on time.

Julia is enjoying kinder a lot. She has really come a long way with her reading, which makes me super happy. Lily was so gifted when it came to reading, and with Julia being more "normal", she sometimes feels like she's making slower progress. But she is definitely enjoying learning and I see a real sense of accomplishment when she reads an entire book! She loves coloring and drawing, and that part of her homework can sometimes take forever, but as long as she is enjoying it, I see no reason to rush her. Julia has also made a lot of friends and has been enjoying playdates outside of school too. All in all, I have no complaints!
Wyatt is enjoying school. He is right on track with his studies. His teacher says he is very quiet in class. That surprises me since he is so active otherwise, but good that he can behave in the classroom. It makes me sad the year is half way done. They are growing way to fast!
I have seen a lot of growth in Brayden this year, mostly social. He seems to pick up things quickly, but what I am most pleased to see is how well he is treating his classmates. Many of the moms comment that their kids are always saying how "kind" and "nice" Brayden is. As a teacher, this means a lot to me. He was pretty shy before Kindergarten, but this year he has really strived to initiate friendships, which is awesome.

Reason: missed a word
We have been super happy with how this year is going and the advancements the girls have made. It is hard to believe that the year is half over!
The girls are soooo looking forward to "classroom visits" where they go and visit the Lower Elementary (1st thru 3rd grade) classrooms and spend the day working with the big kids. Their first official visit is this Thursday and they are over the moon excited!
Most of you have read about the behavior problems we're having on FB, so I won't go into those right now!
Chloe has come a long way with her reading skills. She couldn't read at all before this year and is now going through books mostly on her own, even some challenging first-readers like Fancy Nancy, etc! She loves reading, and it makes me so happy to see her excel.
Wynston is doing quite well but has trouble counting to 100. He may get to 94 and then say 97 and the teacher makes him start over again. I'm not sure I agree with her making a kinder start over and it frustrates him. Other than that, he's progressing well.
