Is your 06'er a scout, or going to be a scout? For those outside the US and Canada, do they have any kind of after school (non-sport) programs for kids that you're looking at?

What about you, what did you do as a kid?

No girl-scouts here, I am very much against it.

Um... right now all my girls are enrolled in is ballet classes starting September. I was thinking about music & art, but when they are both older. I don't really like involving little kids in a gazillion activities.

I hate - HATE - Scouts. However, because my church insists that all boys 8+ be Scouts, my boys will be. Unfortunately.

I was in Girl scouts from 8yrs - 18yrs.

I was going to put Seamus in cub scouts (he has to be in 1st grade first) but I'm strongly considering not because of some political stances they have that I don't agree with.

Why don't you guys like scouts?

Mine are not in it, only because they have other activities they already do. I was a Girl Scout when I was a kid and had a lot of fun.

IDK if Riley will be in it or not. We'll let him decide once school starts.

Wow, serious scouts hating! I'm curious why too. What kind of pandora's box did I just open?

I wouldn't put my kids in scouts either. I don't agree with what they represent. My kids are in Indian Princesses instead.

I was a Girl Guide. Don't know yet if either girl will join. Right now they just do soccer on a Saturday. Right now, at this age, we agree that one out of school hours activity is enough.

I used to work with my local council and the people that run it are a few fries short of a happy meal. In a scary way. Therefore I don't think I'm going to put my girls in it. I'll look for other alternatives.

That being said, I did scouts as a kid and had some fun.

Lily is a girl scout and Julia starts in the fall. They enjoy it, and the activities they do with their friends... if they didn't like it or I felt it was teaching something that our family didn't believe in, then we would stop.
