Does your 06er watch sitcoms and other non-cartoon shows? Seeing as how I have an older daughter, she enjoys the sitcoms on the Disney Channel like Good Luck Charlie, Jessie, Shake it Up, and Wizards of Waverly Place... What are your thoughts on when you make the switch from cartoon shows to sitcoms? So far I've been watching them with the kids, the one or two they see a day... And if I think it's inappropriate in any way we turn it off and I talk to them why I don't think it was ok.

Am I being over protective? I actually don't mind the shows and haven't had a real problem with them yet...

My older kids switched to regular shows long before they were 6. In fact, they were watching Psych with us by then (it started when Ani was 6 and we've watched since the start). We tend to be a bit looser with our TV regulation than others (which is ironic since we didn't even own a television for a long time and have often had no television reception - we've always bought shows on iTunes to watch, though).

Eric is more into cartoons...but I wouldn't have any problem with him watching some of the Disney sitcoms if he wanted to. He just isn't into them. He prefers to watch the stuff on cartoon network. The one live action show that he does watch is ninja warrior, lol.

She watches Treehouse and it's mostly cartoons during the day. She still prefers cartoons, I think. She enjoys the Octonauts, Team Umizoomi, and a couple others.

Jaidyn's always watched non-cartoon shows thanks to having much older siblings. Even before she started school she watched them as the BBC's toddler channel had a mix of programmes suited to them (including the dreaded Teletubbies )
She's been watching Doctor Who since birth

Oh, yeah, Fritz is big into Dr. Who thanks to his big siblings. Merlin as well. It's just how it goes when you have much older kids. And, really, I don't worry about it.
