And they quoted me too. I know the reporter and she usually mis-quotes me on important things like drought and our water supply, but she managed to get it right for this daycare article. Go figure.
I read the article, too. So it sounds like the daycare provider has some helpers, then, too? I think it said she is licensed for up to 15 kids? How many kids does she actually have? The reason I ask is that the home daycare I am likely going to take Emma to will have 8 kids, including her, with just the main daycare provider--no helpers. 8 seems like a lot to me, so I'm having some anxiety about it. She does have a mix of ages and Emma will be the youngest. She has one more that is under a year, and then one that is under 2. The rest are 2-5. I'm probably just worrying too much. So I'd be curious to see what you think, Kath, about the number of babies/kids at your daycare and how they manage it. It seems like the more research I do, 8-10 is pretty common, so I'm sure I'm just being overprotective. But I'd sure like to find some place that only had a few kids... But I'm very happy with the daycare provider herself and got very good recommendations from a good friend of mine, so that means a lot.

Hey Kallie! In Arizona in home day care providers are only allowed to watch 4 children (two max under 1) if they are by themselves. If they want to watch more they have to be designated as a "group home" and hire employees. My daycare lady has 14 children right now and she employees four part time helpers. One is an older lady who used to be a school teacher and she is there every morning. Then she has three young gals (17, 19 and 21) that come in the afternoons and sometimes the 21 year old is there all day (she is going to college for early childhood development). So there is always 2 sometimes 4 gals there. I don't know what these other parents do for work but I swear there are never 14 kids there in one day. Poor Maddie is always the first dropped off and the last picked up it seems like. 8 does sound like a lot for one person but if the kids are older and she is really organized it might be possible. If 8 is the norm in your area too.....
I would check with your local county health department. I have a friend who works there and she was able to give me referals of people that had consistantly passed their inspections. if there is anything else I can help with or if you have any more questions, please let me know!
