This question is for those that have stopped breastfeeding.

I have a very large chest and produce alot of milk. For anyone that may have been in a similar situation, how long did it take for your breasts to dry up, and how painful was it?

I've been strictly breastfeeding for 5 weeks now and want to give it up soon. I've become VERY uncomfortable and I won't be able to pump at work (I go back in a few weeks). I just wanted to get an idea of a timeline of when all this breastmilk stuff would be over. (BYW - I truly enjoyed it at first, but I get the feeling that it may just be harder b/c my chest is so big!)

Thanks for your help!

I bf for 9 weeks and I was in severe pain for about 3 days. It has been almost 3 weeks since I stopped and I still leak occasionally. I did have to wear nursing pads for about two weeks afterwards.

I stopped pumping regularly at 5 weeks, but still pumped once a day to relieve some pressure (probably not the best idea, but oh well). I was going to continue with the once-a day until my supply just dried up, so that I could keep giving Kaya at least a little breast milk, but then I had my gal bladder / pancreatitis attack and was in the hospital for a week. That whole week they were rock hard and hurt like hell... however my gal bladder and pancreas hurt a whole hell of a lot worse and I was on morphine so my boobs were the least of my worries ^^;;;
I leaked the entire week, despite all the meds and crap they were putting into me. (I guess morphine doesn't dry up breast milk production - lol...)

I've got a large chest, but my production was crap the entire time I pumped. And it STILL tooke me over a week to truely dry up. Of course I wasn't in a position to try cabbage leaves, binding, or anything like that.

I stopped pumping around 2 1/2 weeks. My supply wasn't established yet so my situation may be different. I got extremely engorged & felt sick. That night I couldn't stand it anymore and pumped an ounce out of each breast to relieve pressure. Not sure why but my boobs felt better the next day and within a few days I quit leaking.
