Ever since Friday I've been searching for another place to go to the dr... but it's really limited. There's not much around here and it hurts me so bad that this all had to happen. Why did those drs have to be such butts? I trusted them and actually thought they cared. I had went there since 2004. I realized Friday that I was nothing more to them than just another person to poke around on, and if they couldn't get every possible penny out of me (or the state as my case is this time) then they wanted nothing to do with me. Why do they want you to comply to everything they want you to do? Why can't they respect your wishes at all about what's done to your own body? And I really wanted an u/s, was dying to see if they could tell what the baby is. I see such cute things at walmart and I can't buy the stuff because I don't know what the baby is. UGH
What if I can't find a dr because they all require that i have every single test done? What am I gonna do? I told Jason he'd better be getting him an "Idiots Guide to Child Birth" because it looks like he'll be delivering this baby! And lord help if I do need a c-section, I guess he'll just have to sharpen up a knife.
I'm sorry I'm venting so much, maybe I should have put this in the here we go again forum but I guess I'm just feeling pretty low and need all the support I can get.

I'm sorry you cannot find a dr you want. I had to settle for a dr that I wasnt too happy with for my pregnancy with Sierra and it turned out fine in the end. But in all honesty an u/s is a medical diagnostic tool. Its not there to tell you the gender. If I were a dr I would think its kinda weird that you want to have to test that can tell you the gender but you are refusing to see if your cervix is dilated or if you have GD or have low iron.

I think that any doctor that you go to right now, this late in your pregnancy, isn't going to let alot of things go. It's a liability for them to not perform tests and procedures that are a part of their prenatal care program. I hope you get it all straightened out, can you see a midwife?

if i remember correctly - didnt you have a c-section? most moms who have had a previous c-section - typically docs won't let you go with no testing, and no iv, no meds, etc...... it is a huge risk for them. i hope things work out for you though. maybe a home birth? try a doula?

I agree, as sad as it is, doctors have to do certain things to cover their own butts. Unfortunately, that's the society we live in. They're not performing the tests to invade your privacy. They're doing it to ensure that they're giving you the best treatment possible.

I hope you find a doctor you like soon! There's one doctor in the practice I go to that I will forever and always refuse to see because he was incredibly rude to me the one time I saw him when I was pregnant with Seth.

sorry this is all happening to you.... I hope you find a new dr.

But i also agree especially with a previous csection, they dont let you go without tests. Its a risk for you and the baby

This is so awful, you must be so frustrsated, seeing as it is YOUR body and your baby. Just try not to focus on it too much and deal with whatever dr you end up with as positively as you can because otherwide you won't enjoy the fun parts like the ultrasounds and heartbeat etc. GOOD LUCK

It does suck to have some of those tests done, but I agree that there aren't too many doctors that will over look them. As much as you don't want them, you have to keep in mind that they are doing them for the good of the baby (and of course for yourself) and at least by getting them you'll know if something's wrong.

I'm sorry hun, I know it's not something that you want to do, but you may just have to in order to get the medical attention both you and the baby need.

I have to say this but im so glad that im not having a baby were a lot of you mums come from. Here in Australia the dr only does a lot of the test that there wonting to do to BabyJsMommy if your over 38yrs or you request them. But then again were not sueing our doctors for everything that goes wrong over here which makes a big diffrence. And just because its a pregnancy after a c-section does not make a diffrence either over here as i was a previous c-section patient with Sarah-Jane and i did not have to go through extra testing.I feel if i had to go through all that i would be standing up for my rights also.BabyJsMommy i hope it all works out in the end for you my heart really goes out to you right now

I kind of agree with Jen. Tiffany, I hope you see this as support--we are NOT trying to criticize you, hon. But refusing to have a pap or pelvic exam--aren't those the tests you're refusing? Yes, it's embarrassing, but how else can the doctor know what is going on with you and the baby? Even a midwife would do a pelvic exam sometime during the pregancy... I think it's reasonable for you to ask that they not do a pelvic exam at every visit, but they're going to want to look there to monitor you periodically, like Jen said, to see if you are dilated, to feel the position of the baby, etc.

Again, Tiffany, I am really not trying to sound critical but am just giving you another opinion as a 3rd party, listening to what you're saying. We ALL want you to find a provider that you trust and that you will be happy with. Do you have friends in the area you could talk to that could give you a referral? Or even just searching the internet for OBs in your area that are maybe more 'natural'?

Good luck, Tiffany. I'm sorry you're feeling so down about this... I'm sure there is a provider out there who will be more willing to work with you and listen to what you want & don't want. You just have to find him/her!

Have you called your medicaid person to get a list of Drs that accept medicaid? That would be the first thing I would do. Get a list of Dr's you know that you have to option of going to, and even look into midwives if you desire, and then start the calling. I don't think you need to have every test done, as some people don't even go to Dr's or midwives and choose to have their babies completely au natural, but I don't think it's terribly wise to do that. Some of the tests they do can catch something before it gets to serious. So while I think you should stand up for what you want done to your body, you should also consider letting them perform a few tests on you that are for the best of you and your baby. Good luck! Don't worry, I'm sure you'll get things straightened out and find a Dr that you like!

I am so sorry you are going through this. I feel the same way you do and think pregnancy is so much more about the medicine of it rather than it actaully being a birth...something our species has done naturally for tens of thousands of years without a million tests and pokes and prods and all that junk. I felt like a cog in a wheel and that my rights and wishes were not respected even though I had expressed them to every single doctor in the practice I was seeing and I explained them to the nurses that were caring for me and the Dr.s on the day of delievery. The bottom line is they watch their back because they are getting sued all t he time and they would rather subject you to all sorts of unneccecary proceedures rather than let your body do what it is ment to do naturally.

I don't know if you remember my whole GD saga but bassically they screwed up my records with someone elses and they made me take the 3 hour (four needle poke) test. Mind you I had gained only 15 lbs at that point, I am a slender build, I have no history of diabeates or GD in my family and I ARGUED with the Dr. that there must be something wrong because there was no way I could have failed that test. Rather than take all those things into condiseration and doulbe ck. my test results they send me on to get that stupid 3 hour test and do you know what it showed? I not only didn't have GD I am actuallydidn't want to be hooked up to an IV as soon as I got to the hospital. Can you imagine? Telling someone who is about to give birth that their Dr. is refusing to treat them? I totally feel for you on this one. I would definatley look into getting a midwife.
