friends you don't approve of

Do any of your kids's have friends that you don't approve of? Do you talk to them about your concerns ~ or keep your mouth shut?

Shaun has a "friend" who lives across the street. This kid is one of the popular kids in school (4th grade) and probably doesn't really give Shaun the time of day in school ---- but he always wants to spend time with Shaun when nobody else is around. I don't like this boy because he is really sneaky ~ and in my opinion - not a person Shaun needs to waste any time on since he ignores him when other people are around.

I am not sure whether to talk to Shaun about this --- or just let him learn for himself what kind of person this kid is...... especially since we are moving at some point and he won't be around this kid anymore.

I was seriously NOT equipped to be the mother of a child over the age of 6. This is NO FUN AT ALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Liz had a friend like that in middle school (I think). She was new to the neighborhood and her and Liz hit it off. I could tell right away that she was a little more concerned with "extracurriculars" than Liz was. I talked to Liz about it more in the sense to just be careful because she didn't know her very well. Liz wanted to help her get good grades which was great, but in the end, the girl flaked on Liz because all she wanted to do was hook up with guys. Liz just told me that I was right and thanked me for helping her. The girl moved so it wasn't a big deal.

My kids are obviously too young to have friends I don't approve of - but yeah that is a tricky one. If you say something bad, you may push him to want to hang out more. Can you say no to him hanging out with him more than you say yes?

Gosh, I never thought about all these problems that can come up with the boys get older. The boys dont really have any "friends" yet so I cant really contribute. I think I am learning alot from you about what to expect in the future!

That is a tough one. You really do have to be careful because you don't want to upset your child by telling them they can't see someone.

I would say keep an eye on what is going on and hopefully you don't need to mention anything before you move.
