So, for those of us whose child is about to start kindergarten:

When is the first day of school?
Have you bought school supplies/ backpacks etc etc yet?
Any "meet the teacher" event before hand?
Are they excited?

First day of school is the day after Labor Day, so September 6.

We have not bought any supplies yet, but we have the list (which I have approximated at around $35 in supplies PLUS $40 cash to go toward field trips throughout the year... a little sticker shock since this is in addition to the $330/month we're paying to have Emma in ALL-day kindergarten... half day is free).

Emma is SUPER excited. That's an understatement. She's giddy. She's SO ready. I know I will probably tear up on her first day, but only because my girl has gotten so big and mature... not because I have any fears about her being sad or homesick!

We have an open house on Sept 1. We do not yet know who her teacher will be but we'll find out before the open house so will meet her then (all 3 kindergarten teachers are female).

Haley's first day is Aug. 22nd

We've bought all of her supplies except for darn 12x18 construction paper. Didn't have it at walmart, and office max only had the "super deluxe, artist quality" for $8 a pack. yeah right - not for kindergarten! I start back to work on Monday, so I'm trying to get everything together early.

She's got a Hello Kitty lunchbox, and Littlest Pet Shop back pack. She was so excited picking them out!

We have a meet the teacher night next Thurs evening.

Haley is very excited! She just finished a 5 week intensive social skills class, to help her deal with the extreme anxiety, and the strong frustration reactions she's wired to have. She's done great at the program, and we've seen a lot of improvement at home. She's been better able to identify and talk about her feelings. I'm kind of a nervous wreck - because I'm hoping that this will all help her cope with the things school requires.

Seth's first day is 8/17. NEXT Wednesday!

We bought supplies and his backpack earlier this week. We still need to get scissors because WalMart was out. (go figure?!?)

We met his teacher back in May after they did testing. She is AMAZING. She just won some presidential teacher award for excellence and went to Washington and met the president and everything. I was very excited when we found out Seth was in her class. I have friends who's kids have had her and have heard nothing but awesome things about her.

Seth is excited. He's a little bummed that his best friend Ben from preschool isn't in his class so he keeps asking me if he'll still see him. They're at the same school, just different classes. But he does know 2 girls from his preschool that are in his class so that's good. I'm starting to get nervous. I know I'll cry!

We went to my son's tour of the school today and he stuck to me like glue. I know he'll love it once he starts though. Can't believe it's here.

welcome Kristen!! What is your son's name? The board is a little slow over the summer, but I hope you stick around. We have the best group of ladies!

Anna starts on Sept 7th. They won't publish the supply list until August 23rd. I'd love if she was going full day kinder but it is a lottery because those spots are highly sought after. 325 a month for full day vs. 590 for daycare.

Any "meet the teacher" event before hand? We've had a meet and greet which was just a tour of the school etc in the spring, then we already had buss orientation last week this week coming up we have a meet and greet then abby does the next day.
Are they excited? YES. The bus is coming at 0702!!!! SOO early.

Angela, I thought you home-schooled your kids? Did you decide not to do that with Ryland?

I am sending him to school for Kindergarten. He requires to much attention that it has taken away from Em's schooling and middle school is hard enough for a child who has been in school there is no way I would throw her to the wolves in middles school. I also think her needs to learn to respect all authority and he needs to make some friends. All the kids in all our circles his age are girls. he needs to meet some boys to play with.
