I'm still breastfeeding and I got my period for the first time, a few days ago and boy was it bad. I didn't think I would get them until I finished breastfeeding. I rang my gyno and she said everyone is different, but I was so upset, I really didn't want to get them so soon. Does or did anyone else get their period while breastfeeding still? I know my doctor said it was normal and fine but I would like to hear it from others too.

I only breastfed for 4 months, but I got AF back at 3 months I think...I guess I wasn't as lucky as a lot of breastfeeding ladies. It is totally normal though!

I got mine when M was about 4 months old. They are semi-regular but it took a little bit of time for them to get that way.

Mine have always been delayed by longer than a year, but almost always returned while I was still nursing. For women who are exclusively breastfeeding (that is, nursing on demand day and night with no bottles, pacifiers, or separation of Mom and Baby) the average for periods to return is 14 months... If you want to try upping the amount of time you spend nursing, your periods might be suppressed again.

I got mine when K was 4mos old, it was pretty bad for me as well. I stopped nursing at night at that point so that makes sense. She gets a bottle at night now because she sleeps better than if I pick her up and nurse her.

So far no AF yet, but I don't think you should worry about it. Everyone's different.

I breastfed Arianna for 8 months 2 weeks (just recently weaned her to just the bottle). And I ended up getting my first period at 5 weeks PP and have been on a 21 day cycle ever since. I was NOT fortunate at all

I nurse on demand still, and i got my period back at 7 months PP, but i only had 2 periods yet. I am now almost 10 months PP. My first period was pretty normal, just a little heavier then usual. The second one however, was HORRIBLE! Lasted much longer, and was MUCH heavier. With my son, who i also BF on demand, i had my cycle return at 2 months PP. So i was a little luckier this time around.
