Prayers at dinner, prayers before bed, praying the rosary together as a family once a month, opening one present then going to midnight mass on Christmas Eve, big family get togethers... basically a lot of things that revolve around church and holidays will be passed down.
I want to start a birthday tradition to make each kid's birthday extra special... I just don't know what yet!

We didn't really have any traditions growing up. I'd like to start something with the boys but not sure what yet. I was thinking maybe something to do with their birthdays too just so they feel extra special on their "own" day. No ideas yet though

Before Christmas every year we always made coffee cakes and handed out some to friends and family - and then that is what we ate for breakfast on Christmas morning. We only make it during Christmas so it stays special. Trevor's family had a red plate that said "you are special" on it. Whenever they did something special - from playing well in a game or getting a good grade they would get the red plate for dinner. They also took one of those speical writing pens and wrote on the back different things they got the plate for and the dates - it was really cool reading them. One was great because Trevor got the you are special plate for not peeing in the bed anymore ( he was like 12) !!! LOL
I like hearing other peoples traditions in case I want to steal them and use them!

Christmas Eve we decorate cookies, go out to eat and drive around looking at everyone's lights. Christmas morning stockings are opened first. We also buy a special ormanent that represents the year in some way.
We also go camping in the summer and spend loooong days at the beach a bunch. On your birthday you get to pick what you want for dinner, and we make pancakes in the morning in the shape of your age.

Christmas eve you can open one gift, and then a family breakfast at "Uncle Larry's" every year...and driving around and looking at lights sometime in the season.
Birthdays we chose our dinner as well...my mom and stepdad didn't have alot of money after my dad and mom split up, so this was as special as our birthdays could get. My Mommy even woke me and Katie up with balloons and a "Sweet 16" pin on our 16 birthday, and to this day it's our favorite gift EVER... I might do it for Xander.
And when we were in kindergarden, our teacher sang a goodbye song everyday, and one night we wouldn't go to bed, so my mom jokingly turned it into "The goodnight song", and we asked her to sing it to us everynight after that, and it stuck with our little brothers. I sing it to Xander pretty often, and I think I'll continue to.
Other than that, we don't really have any traditions, but I'm sure we'll start many!

Birthdays they can pick what they want for supper.
Christmas will be church and the chance to open 1 present on christmas eve.
Easter will be eggs and such
Ice cream and special treats when they are super good.
Nothing too special.

I'd like to keep doing some of the things French people do that we don't do in the U.S. For example, there's a 'holiday' in January (it's called 'epiphany') when everyone eats a "king's cake" that has a little king piece inside it somewhere and if you end up getting the piece with the king in it, you dress up like a king, or a queen (normally just put a little crown on) and people kinda make a little fuss over you. It's a kid thing but it's cute and everyone over there does it. I'd also like to celebrate the French national holiday (July 14th) in some way for Paul so he always keeps his French heritage alive.
